Johnson & Johnson asks FDA for emergency use authorization of coronavirus vaccine
The Tulsa World ^ | February 4, 2021 | Associated Press, CNN

Johnson & Johnson asked U.S. regulators Thursday to clear the world’s first single-dose COVID-19 vaccine, an easier-to-use option that could boost scarce supplies.

J&J’s vaccine was safe and offered strong protection against moderate to severe COVID-19, according to preliminary results from a massive international study.

It didn’t appear quite as strong as two-dose competitors made by Pfizer and Moderna — a finding that may be more perception than reality, given differences in how each was tested.

It is needed as most first shot patients are not being treated because so many of us have had the first shot and will need the second shot.

We have relatives, friends and others we know across the nation, who can’t get their first shot due to the shortages.

Many of these people are in their late 70’s or 80’s with physical problems that justify them being vaccinated. In spite of trying for weeks, they have not been able to get vaccinated.

My Doctor says that the J & J vaccine will be the best one to have administered. He even told me to wait for it.

I’ll rather wait for this one than to take Moderna and Pfizer shots, which are based on mrna technology which is new.

It’s not as good as the Pfizer and Moderna but easier to transport and store and only requires one shot. I see no problem adding it to the mix since it’s already developed.

But I’ll get Moderna as soon as it’s available.

Same here - my doctor is concerned about mRNA vaccines.

I am getting one of the twostage vaxx tomorrow. I would rather the J&J. It is a real vaxx as opposed to the RNA derivatives like Moderna and Pfizer. But I am not waiting till May.

Well I have several concerns about these vaccines myself, but let's just pretend that it took them 10 years to develop and has proven long term safety and efficacy and it will work against mutated strains... if so, then you do need the second shot (and/or 3rd or 4th shot for the mutations). Has to do with the mRNA platforms. They can quickly adapt to the new strains, that's why at least in part Fauxi et al wanted to keep the HCQ and Ivermectin therapies off the market - they wanted the billions of dollars to invest in this technology for the long term development to treat future viruses and maybe other ailments, so they justified denying simple cheap safe treatments that seem to work no matter who it killed along the way (but in reality we could have done both).

I was just reading that there are major screw-ups in the distribution. People over 65 who want the vaccine are supposed to be next up in line, but the sign up process is cumbersome and/or they get conflicting information about local availability and/or when they get there on their appointed time they find either long lines or the supplies have run out. Badly coordinated. People in their 80's and 90s are surprisingly adept at using computers, but some only to the degree of email and online shopping type stuff. Gotta make it simple to locate, get your appointment time, and get what you ordered. Remember the $5 billion Obamacare exchange website? Government does a few things great but not these kinds of things.

Same here re: J&J. I have been advised to wait for it. Probably will be sometime in early-mid summer.

I'm a physician, and I would be willing to take this one.

The mRNA shots?

Not unless I'm forced to.

I don't trust them.

Yet.

It's just too early in the game to know what the long-term effects are.

If someone wants the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, more power to them.

“Emergency use authorization” means it does more damage than good.

This is how the Pfizer vaccine was approved. They had it for a long time but the research showed it to much damage to test groups. FDA cleared it because Fauci told them to.

Like I said, the 46th president, fauci.

Thanks for your kind opinion. It is valuable to have physicians state their opinions here on FR.

It seems to match the idea my physician has, to take the J & J vaccine.

We’ll see, as time goes on, how this will shake out.

It may very well be that the mRNA vaccines will only act as a temporary prophylaxis.

The slow roll out will allow us too see what might be happening, which may be one positive aspect in this evolution of vaccinology.

Watching what is happening in Canada with their shortened supply of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines from Europe, ( they get none from USA), it is the only G7 country that is not receiving promised , contracted supply.

The Canadians may have to depend more heavily on the later vaccines to be approved such as J & J. Trudeau is looking like he has increasing accumulations of egg on his face by relying exclusively on the Europeans as an anti-Trump socialist. His fellow socialists in Europe have lethim down , and there is no domestically produced vaccine capability in Canada but they have started 3 production facilities , one in BC, and 2 in Quebec and just now Canada has allocated federal funds to begin constructing these facilities.

We see just how dysfunctional socialist style government is, how l;ong they take to do things and how reluctant and haphazard the socialist system is at forward strategic planning. It took the Canadian Government a whole year to realize they need their own facilities to produce these vaccines , which will likely needed for years to come.

President Trump put a great system in place, whereas in other countries in Europe supply chains are being jockeyed depending on who will play politics the most vindictively , and who is willing to pay higher prices.Portugal is suffering horribly in this system.Canada may devolve to much the same.

J&J’s vaccine was safe and offered strong protection against moderate to severe COVID-19, ...

That statement makes no sense at all. Unless their "vaccine" is a treatment and not a vaccine. If it is a vaccine then it would protect against Covid-19. Period.

A vaccine may or may not work for everybody but the severity of infection is irrelevant to its effectiveness. Either it prevents infection or it does not. A vaccine only works if the subject gets it prior to infection and far enough in advance of a potentially infectious exposure to allow immunity to build.

If you have been vaccinated and come down with Covid-19, and the infection is mild or even asymptomatic, then the vaccine did not work in that instance.
