Trump Impeachment Lawyer: ‘Stolen’ Election Claims Won’t Be Brought Up During Trial
Epoch Times ^ | 2-3-21 | JACK PHILLIPS

Posted on 02/03/2021 1:38:09 PM PST by bimboeruption

An attorney for former President Donald Trump said he won’t bring up claims about election fraud while defending the former president during the upcoming impeachment trial.

“There are plenty of questions about how the election was conducted throughout the country, but that’s for a different forum, and I don’t believe that’s important to litigate in the Senate trial because you don’t need it,” attorney Bruce Castor told KYW Newsradio Philadelphia. “President Trump has plenty to win with what he has.”

Castor also pushed back against reports that Trump parted ways with his initial legal team about whether they would advance his claims about election fraud.

“I don’t know where people got that notion that was some sort of litmus test to get to defend the president, because as you saw from the document I filed, which had to be approved by the president personally, there isn’t anything in there about the election being stolen,” Castor said.

Castor and fellow Trump lawyer David Schoen filed a response to House Democratic impeachment managers on Feb. 2, arguing that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional because Trump doesn’t currently hold office. They also argued that Trump has a First Amendment right to express his views about the accuracy of the election results.

Democrats argued that Trump’s speech wasn’t constitutionally protected and said it incited an insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

“Just because somebody gave a speech and people got excited, it doesn’t mean it’s the speechmaker’s fault—it’s the people who got excited and did what they know is wrong,” Castor said in pushing back against Democrats, referring to Trump’s remarks to a crowd on Jan. 6.

I get why the lawyers SAY this.

But really, nothing would be better than for this kangaroo court to drag on and on and on with new evidence about the “protesters” being produced every thirty minutes....

Screw the Corrupt DOJ, The corrupt judges, and the Rest. Trump had the power of the people behind him. The people were just waiting for him to say When, Where, and What. A lot could have been done at the state level. People could have demanded the State legislature laws(and therefore the constitution) be followed for instance.

Trump needed to call these crooks out. He needed to do it relentlessly. Not just glancing comments.

“You don’t know if he will be able to address or not.”

That is ridiculous. Who’s in charge?

Say what??? Ridiculous? You are not in charge—that is for sure, so how do YOU know what will or won’t happen unless you are involved in the process? Ridiculous question, because you don’t.

If your OPINION (not fact because you are not in charge nor do you know) is he is not in charge or able to present or argue election fraud, then when and how does the opportunity to defend and inform the public present??

His Twitter and FB are closed, Parler down. Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube take down any and all videos they can dealing with election fraud. Practically every media—including Newsmax and Fox are censoring the election STEAL...So dear Freeper, how is this ridiculous do you think he should just accept the fraud? If you don’t, how and when is this presented to the American citizenry??

Our friend Steve Bannon will be very disappointed. As will I.

I had anticipated some Dem shenanigans to avoid the election fraud issue but I didn’t expect the trick to be executed by the Trump lawyers.

As to winning the Senate trial and having plenty of ammunition - well duh, Trump the Traitor is just a story made up by Pelosi and Schumer. I could successfully defend Trump.

To me it looks like a missed opportunity to officially introduce proof of election fraud. I guess Trump has been talked out of it. Sad to say.

You are unreasonable, and I won’t argue with you.

We’ll see what happens.

Funny, someone just said I was reasonable a couple days ago...

Dear Freeper, have a nice evening.

This is probably the best advice he has gotten since the election and probably before.

I agree.

The Establishment has removed from President Trump the means by which he communicated with the country. A few Conservative voices speak in his behalf.

The trial in the Senate provides him with the platform to reach America with his side of the story...IF they listen.

His story needs to be told and memorialized for future generations.

But when we peacefully march in support of Trump, let’s dress as Antifa and BLM. We will get all the positive news coverage they get!

Lol

“...Steve Bannon will be very disappointed. As will I.”

Yep, and b/c Mr. Bannon REFUSES to hear us out regarding 3rd party, even now with the McCarthy/Cheney loveboat, he’s flirting with being more disappointed.

For one, and i can’t be the only, NO WAY am i changing back voter affiliation to Repub from Indep that i switched after 48 years!

And if Trump allows these lawyers to speak for him WITHOUT defending US MAGA in abstentia, i personally will be NOT going to vote Trump or any other Repub. My voting days will be over.

Without defense and presentation of the ‘receipts’ that this election was stolen, all previous MAGA’s are subject to being insurrectionists.

Castor also would like some more clients the rest of his professional career after successfully defending Trump.

+++++
Well I am in the Bannon camp on both issues including his position on a 3rd Party movement. I think that while the intentions are good, it would be a mistake.

And for those like yourself who support the idea you should be aware that Trump disagrees with you. If he was for it I would be on your side. Reluctantly but I would do it. But Trump is not going to support the 3rd Party initiative.

And don’t forget the simple fact that if only honest votes were counted, more people voted R than voted D in the last election. Let that sink in. In this most recent election the most popular political party was the GOP.

The leadership of the GOP does indeed SUCK. But compared to Pelosi and Schumer they look like angels. We will make much faster progress by following Trumps lead and just running against these RINOS in the Primaries.

"...he can bring his case to the SCOTUS"

HAHAHAHAhahaha!! The courts...

"The court of public opinion" is the only place he can win the fraud argument. After what's already happened, you'd have to be extremely naïve to think otherwise. Once this is done, Trump will no longer have a platform to reach large a large public audience. Even if he did Rush's show again, it'd be an echo chamber. Where else can he go? Twitter? Facebook? Fox? Newsmax? I doubt anyone will provide a venue for him after the "Great Capitol Massacre of 2021".

The possibility that he "wins" this sham impeachment is irrelevant. What's the best outcome? That he can run again? Well, we've seen how that'll turn out if the fraud isn't addressed.

If he's not going to bring it up, he is better off just not showing up.

“ you should be aware that Trump disagrees with you. ”

Not sure that’s accurate, as we only know what advisors and printers have related. i suggest the advice he’s been receiving since Jan 6th is from ball-less gop’ers and these latest lawyers.

Surrendering to the gop this early has the exact consequences we see now, like Cheney not being unseated by hidden votes today.

i for one refuse to be the proverbial Lucy anymore.

“Does anyone have a reasonable explanation?”

There are several possibilities. I’m going with Satan.

You sure were able to summarize a lot of the scary stuff that happened.
