What’s ironic about all this is that the U.S. is governed today pretty much the way it was originally designed to operate. This country was established as an oligarchy, not a democracy. It’s easy to forget this in an age when every jackass who can breathe on a mirror — and even many who can’t — are entitled to “vote,” but it’s true.

The founders of this country had no intention of establishing a system of government in which the political and financial interests of men like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson could be undermined by the peasants who worked for them.

A fair point. However, the Rule of Law used to be important, and now seems to have been cast aside. If the Oligarchy adheres to the Constitution, and follows state laws, then we can’t go too far wrong. But what we see is that the laws are just for the little people. The Founders would be horrified.

I’m responding late, even though I read this yesterday but, just have to say - you have a pretty cynical opinion of our founding fathers, our providential origins and destiny - or, dare I assume, lack thereof, according to you.

Am I understanding you correctly?
