Eugenio Martinez, Last of the Watergate Burglars, Dies at 98
NYT ^ | 2/2/21 | Sam Roberts

Posted on 02/02/2021 4:46:26 PM PST by Borges

Eugenio Martinez, the last surviving Watergate burglar and the only figure in the scandal besides Richard M. Nixon to be granted a presidential pardon, died on Saturday in Minneola, Fla. He was 98.

His death, at his daughter’s home near Orlando, was announced by Brigade 2506, a veterans group of Mr. Martinez’s fellow anti-Communist Cuban exiles. Their abortive invasion to overthrow the government headed by Fidel Castro in 1963 at the Bay of Pigs was covertly supported by the Central Intelligence Agency.

“Their abortive invasion to overthrow the government headed by Fidel Castro in 1963 at the Bay of Pigs was covertly supported by the Central Intelligence Agency.”

Apparently w/o any air support.

He sure knew how to keep a low profile. I never even heard of him before now. He could have made money for retirement by writing or Ghost Writing a book about that topic.

If I were asked as to who did more long-term damage to the country, I’d probably have to give Nixon top-honors, with Jimmy Carter coming in a close second.

Nixon is the ‘gift’ (to our country’s destruction) that never stops giving.

In the Watergate Tapes, the long gap in the tapes came right after Nixon spoke about how this third-rate burglary might bring up “the whole Cuban thing.”

Most probable to me was it would bring up the Bay of Pigs fiasco as well as CIA meddling. Some have thought it was about Cuban involvement with the Kennedy Assasination (I don’t think so).

Recall that Nixon’s plumbers went after that guy that released “The Pentagon Papers”. But those documents were about Johnson’s botching of the war. I think Nixon cared most about the image and strength of America (and protecting that).

Wasn’t he also one of the 4 tramps arrested from behind the grassy knoll in the train in a boxcar that the people in the control tower watched leave the fence area after he shots were fired. they walked over to a car put something in the trunk one person got in a drove away and the other 4 went into the boxcar....

There are pictures of the 4 men, G. Gordan Liddy, Frank Sturges, this guy and the other Watergate burler.

Calling G. Gordon Liddy for a comment.

I used to enjoy his radio show in the early to mid 90s....especially his “Review of, and Comment Upon, the News” segment.

it was about Cuban involvement with the Kennedy Assassination

There was so much dirty laundry out there (not known to the public in 1972-1973 time period).

Just some of it:

CIA/Mafia assassination plots against Castro

The CIA/Mafia involvement in the planning, logistics, execution and coverup of the JFK assassination (Nixon probably knew some but not all of the pieces).

and..the CIA involvement in the RFK assassination.

The secret JFK deal to end the Cuban Missile Crisis (which included removing US missiles from Turkey).

“If I were asked as to who did more long-term damage to the country, I’d probably have to give Nixon top-honors.”

It is my opinion that Congress should have been handing out medals to the entire Nixon Administration. It WAS about National Security! They were trying to keep a KNOWN communist out of the White House!

But, of course, the dims and the msm fooled the American public into thinking otherwise!
