Mexican soldiers rescue toddler abandoned in Rio Grande

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican soldiers and immigration agents rescued a 2-year-old girl from Chile after she apparently fell into the Rio Grande and the adults who were with her left her and crossed the river into the United States, officials said Sunday.

The National Immigration Institute said the incident occurred Saturday as a group of migrants was crossing the river near Ciudad Acuna, across from Del Rio, Texas.

The adults made gestures, pointing out the toddler to soldiers and immigration agents, who then waded into the river to rescue her, the agency said. Somehow the girl remained afloat.

The adults did not stop to retrieve the girl and continued across the river.

Papers found in a plastic bag in the girl's clothing included a birth certificate from Chile, officials said. The girl was part of a family group that had previously sought asylum or refugee status in Mexico.

Poor little thing. That had to be frightening. Good that she was rescued. However, the reality is we cannot absorb everybody in the world who wants to just walk in, especially when most of those walking in have little to offer the economy. This latest tidal wave is all on Joe Biden and his Puppet Masters.

Probably a kidnapped or bought child to get more of a chance to get asylum. I know of no mother who wouldn’t risk her life for her baby.

No decent parent would abandon their own child, and if they did, they don't deserve to get the child back.

This case points out that people traveling together are not necessarily a family and separation is needed to learn their identity.

The Border Patrol might become suspicious if "Uncle Jose" comes across the border with three 13-year old girls, who he claims are his nieces, but doesn't know their last names.

Somehow the girl remained afloat.

I remember seeing a theory some years ago that the reason humans walk upright and are (relatively) hairless compared to other primates is because, at the point at which we diverged, we were in an environment where we did a lot of wading in water. Interesting.

Regardless, human babies are born fat and body fat floats. Perhaps the 2-year old toddler still had most of hers.
