Amid a boycott in response to its politically motivated decision to drop Mike Lindell’s MyPillow products, shares of Bed Bath & Beyond plunged 36.4% at the close of trading Thursday. The retail chain suffered its biggest one-day loss since going public in June 1992.
Article by Art Moore originally published at WND.
The consumer organization Media Action Network launched the boycott of Bed, Bath & Beyond after the retail chain stopped selling Lindell’s products due to his support of President Trump’s claim that fraud affected the outcome of the 2020 election. Retailers Wayfair and Kohl’s also have stopped selling MyPillow products.
Lindell, famous for his TV ads, employs more than 1,500 people at his Minnesota plant. He recounted to WND last May the remarkable transformation in his life through his faith in Jesus Christ.
“This isn’t about pillows. It’s about the continual punishment of conservative speech,” Media Action Network founder Ken LaCorte said in an announcement of the boycott.
“And we’ve had enough.”
Media Action Network has a petition online in support of the boycott with nearly 24,000 signatures so far.
“Every time we turn around, another conservative has been silenced under false pretenses of ‘hate’ or ‘isms’ or the most recent offense-de-jour,” said LaCorte. “We’re fighting back.”
Protesters at Bed, Bath & Beyond’s store in Larkspur, California, on Tuesday left checkers with a $20 tip and a statement for CEO Mark Tritton.
“Stop promoting ‘cancel,” they wrote. “You buckled to pressure, removing MyPillow products … because of Mike Lindell’s politics. It’s un-American.
“Our country was founded on the principle of free speech and open debate,” the wrote. “These days, censorship and suppression are far too common, and you’re now part of the problem. You have that right, of course, but realize you’re antagonizing half of your customers. And Mark … we’ve had enough. We’re tired of corporate big-shots looking down on our beliefs. Reverse this decision now and get out of politics, or we’re done with you forever.”
I think I need a couple of new pillows.
I unsubscribed from their site to send a message of disapproval. Never shop there anyway.
Hopefully, they will realize what's going on and get their management to stop being crazy.
Just checked...the stock is at 38
I never did get the hype about ‘My Pillow’s then the brother in law bought us some and I have to say I like it...better than the pillow I had anyway.
Yeah, what's ignored in this story is that the stock had a huge run-up the day before and is basically back where it was at the beginning of the week.
My linen closet needs a refresh. Anyone here have My Pillow company’s towels? How are they?
I have been advocating this since Inauguration Day. This is a good start, but we should be boycotting all of the “big box” stores and Chinese manufactured goods. Something must be done. Economic boycotts are a form of peaceful protest.
RE: Hogwash - BBY shares are still up considerably over 2020 levels
The question is - did they fall 36% BECAUSE of what they did to MyPillow? Or would they have fallen 36% REGARDLESS?
Hopefully, they will realize what’s going on and get their management to stop being crazy
And the Easter bunny will come hopping along with the answer.
That Trump Curse is mighty powerful! Why, it’s almost as powerful and selective as the Wuhan Flu!
I’ve never shopped at a BB&B, but I hear I’m not missing much.
We need a new mattress topper, so I plan on taking advantage of Mike’s current deal with the two free pillows thrown in.
God Bless America. :)
BBBY is part of a stock war going on and it is gyrating like crazy - up and down - due to the same thing that is happening with gamestop stock. We conservatives have so little good content to look at and then these conservative scam sites push bullSH!t to get us to click Yup, parler was another BullSH!T site. I knew it the first time I went there. Still not up. they were never serious about taking on twitter. Gawd, I wish there were serious players to deliver stuff to us conservatives
Better yet: one year I got my wife a pair of scales - She had been complaining that she weighed too much and I realized that she was at the lowest weight of our marriage. After she cuffed me, she never used them -but I did.
She did stop complaining about her weight, so I guess the gift was a good one.
(By the way we had lived in Manila for 3 years by the time and with the heat, diet, etc... neither of weighed as much as we should have.)
Irrelevant. Last year was coronavirus hysteria and lockdowns laying waste to the retail sector. Most companies are up from last year.
This is what is relevant : Did they suffer a massive 36% fall in market value in just one day, after announcing they were not selling MyPilow products anymore? Yes.
“I don’t agree with Mr. My Pillow on the election...”
Yes, why would anyone NOT believe that that senile, decrepit old hair sniffer could pull in 80 million votes when he couldn’t get 50 people whenever he ventured out in public while the campaign was going on. Notice I did not say “while he was campaigning” because he never campaigned.
He has probably started a new trend. The proper way to get an extreme number of votes is to keep a “lid” on your campaign and hide from the public. Keep them waiting for more.
Pish posh - BBY is going away with recent pillow activity having little, if any, impact on its trajectory.
Ha. Ha. Ha.
Because of this, my wife is going to replace every pillow in our house with Mike Lindell’s product.
I just ordered three pillows. Let’s make our point and reward a guy who isn’t ashamed to speak the truth.
