Oregon puts debate over race in vaccine rollout to test

PORTLAND, Ore. - The role that race should play in deciding who gets priority for the COVID-19 vaccine in the next phase of the rollout is being put to the test in Oregon as tensions around equity and access to the shots emerge nationwide.

An advisory committee that provides recommendations to Oregon’s governor and public health authorities will vote Thursday on whether to prioritize people of color, target those with chronic medical conditions or focus on some combination of groups at higher risk from the coronavirus. Others, such as essential workers, refugees, inmates and people under 65 living in group settings, are also being considered.

The committee’s recommendations are not binding but provide critical input for Gov. Kate Brown and guide health authorities crafting the rollout.

“It’s about revealing the structural racism that remains hidden. It influences the disparities we experienced before the pandemic and exacerbated the disparities we experienced during the pandemic,” said Kelly Gonzales, a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a health disparity expert on the committee.

The virus has disproportionately affected people of color. Last week, the Biden administration reemphasized the importance of including “social vulnerability” in state vaccination plans — with race, ethnicity and the rural-urban divide at the forefront — and asked states to identify “pharmacy deserts” where getting shots into arms will be difficult.

The virus also disproportionately effects men. Does this mean men go to the front of the line? Does an 80 year old white male go in front of a 30 year old black female?

We have liars using a hoax to support more lies and hoaxes. This will not end well.

Black athletes demand early access to the vaccine because they pay so much in taxes, per Charles Barkley. I say let them have it. Heck, they can have mine. I won’t be taking it.

"tensions around equity and access to the shots emerge nationwide."

Note that in the new Marxist definition of words in the US, equity does NOT mean equality. In fact, it means just the opposite. In this case, it means that the life saving shots will be distributed based on skin color only. This will not be based on saving the most lives, nor on saving the ones most vulnerable. Instead, the shots will first be given to the bureaucrats in charge, then to those with the most privileged skin color, privileged color being granted by the already 'saved' bureaucrats.

This is the very definition of racism by any rational individual.

Oh, am I being racist for wanting to experiment on them?

Or am I being racist for not caring about skin color but to just vaccinate people who want it.

They can have mine if they want one so bad.

We can probably schedule a vaccination easier at inner-city locations.

Actually, they may be right, but for all the wrong reasons. The suppression of the fact that Covid-19 is of little risk for those that are in good metabolic health and have Vitamin D levels of 30+ comes into play here.

The natural effect of having dark skin is to require more time in the sun to produce Vitamin D. Accordingly, Blacks, especially those who live in northern latitudes, tend to become vitamin D deficient (especially in winter months) - so they are at somewhat greater risk - and consideration of that fact in ranking priorities is entirely reasonable.

Of course, this is isn’t why they propose using race for consideration in vaccine ranking - but it provides an opportunity to make a point that has been widely supressed.

Yes, but you know as well as I we're not talking about rational individuals, we're talking about Democrats.

Ask your this, if these people had intentions of preventing this faux virus from infecting the most vulnerable, why do these a$$wipes even consider race.

They can have mine, I'm not getting near any of the vaccines, and I'm not anti-vaccine. I've had all of the usual shots, as well as taking the annual flu vaccine.

Too many people have died within days/weeks of getting the vaccine.
