Though President Biden is all in on a Senate impeachment trial, telling CNN he believes it “has to happen,” even he is acknowledging the reality that the upper chamber will not be able to convict former President Trump.
He told the network that if Trump had several months left in office the outcome of the trial could be different, but noted that it’s unlikely now that 17 GOP senators will vote to convict the former president.
"The Senate has changed since I was there, but it hasn’t changed that much," Biden said.
Biden made the comment during a brief one-on-one interview with CNN in the halls of the West Wing. He acknowledged the effect it could have on his legislative agenda and Cabinet nominees but said there would be "a worse effect if it didn't happen.
House Democrats on Monday night brought the article of impeachment to the Senate.
"Tonight, we have delivered the Article of Impeachment against Donald John Trump, former President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors against the United States,” said Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, the lead impeachment manager. “The nine Impeachment Managers appointed by the House of Representatives will present overwhelming evidence of the facts of former President Trump's incitement of the violent insurrection that took place in and around the Capitol on January 6, 2021.”
The trial is set to begin in early February, with Senate President Pro Tempore, Sen. Patrick Leahy, presiding over the proceedings.
I want them to continue because this is pissing off a lot of people——Yes, even my “lefty” family members.
He and Pelosi should hold their breath and stomp their feet until there are enough votes.
Dominion can get them the votes they need!

They didn’t present any evidence during the impeachment.
I think it far more telling and a more accurate reflection of the current state of our political situation that President Trump will be the first president to be acquitted twice.
This is the drum our reps and conservative media need to continuously and loudly beat.
I also want the “trial” to be a platform to educate America about the unconstitutional acts of several States and Voter fraud during the election.
That can happen despite Democrat objections, and those objections will speak volumes.
Keep the impeachment going, Biden. Trump would love to testify and bring up a few “issues” with America watching.
The optics of this are terrible for the Democrats as they continue to go after the former president while the vaccine rollout is stalled in many places. Here in Southern California there are many people wondering why they can’t get the vaccine. People are pissed off right now. The population is starting to wake up from their stupor. Continued lockdowns, restaurants and small businesses failing, vaccines difficult to obtain, gas prices climbing, unemployment benefits stalled, etc. while Congress is still obsessed with Trump.
Watch the House go back to the GOP in a big way in 2022. The Dems won’t be able to steal their way out of the tsunami. 1994 midterms all over again.
I heard Leaky Leahy was sick. That’s too bad
RE: I heard Leaky Leahy was sick. That’s too bad
Let’s say (God forbid ), Leahy is unable to preside due to illness, who’s next in line to preside?
Aren’t you all just feeling totally united by Biden.
Pelosi had no hearings, no due process, no evidence presentation, no rebuttals, no anything that speaks of justice.
Despite that Liz Cheney voted to impeach along with 9 other knuckleheads and a bunch of socialists.
It was so urgent to impeach President Trump in order to get him removed from office that Pelosi waited until after he had left office to even deliver the articles to the Senate.
The ONLY reason the Dems are doing this is to “rile & froth up” their base with continued, ongoing hatred.
Face it - Dems have no policy that’s good for the American people. Hatred for Trump and “white supremacists” (all ~80 of them that actually exist countrywide, per a study by the ADL) is all they have going to try to get people to vote for them.
Voting on racial division (that they themselves create) and hatred of conservatives, vs voting on what’s good for the American people sure is pathetic.
Trump should say, go ahead with the vote, I’m not sending a defense team to this circus folly.
Joes best move? Pardon Trump. Ain’t gonna happen but it is still his best move.
I haven’t heard that Trump said anything other than, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”.
I thought he was opining on his own impeachment. There will be enough votes soon enough as soon as the Democrats decide to replace him with the Kamal...
