Google suspends donations to lawmakers who voted against certifying election
The Hill ^ | 01/26/21 09:24 AM EST | BY CELINE CASTRONUOVO

Google late Monday announced that its political action committee will not make donations this election cycle to members of Congress who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election results.

The decision comes after the tech giant implemented an internal review on its political contributions following the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, which was spurred by unsupported claims from former President Trump and his allies that the 2020 election was rigged in favor of President Biden.

“Following that review, the NetPAC board has decided that it will not be making any contributions this cycle to any member of Congress who voted against certification of the election results,” Google spokesperson José Castañeda told The Hill.

This comes after Facebook announced earlier this month following the Capitol riot that it would be suspending its political contributions for the first quarter of 2021, and Microsoft said Sunday it was halting political donations while reviewing whether to further suspend contributions to lawmakers who voted against election certification.

Microsoft said in a public statement it will announce its final decision about a suspension of donations by Feb. 15 after completing discussions with employees.

Other companies such as Amazon, AT&T and Comcast have also threatened to halt donations following the pro-Trump riot, in which five people died amid the chaos, including a Capitol Police officer who sustained injuries while responding to the rioting and a woman shot by a plainclothes officer.

Following the riot, which occurred as Congress met to certify Biden’s electoral win, several Republican lawmakers moved forward with voting in favor of rejecting a slate of electors for Biden from Pennsylvania and Arizona over unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud that would have altered the outcome of the election.

Some of the biggest supporters of the election challenges, including GOP Sens. Josh Hawley (Mo.) and Ted Cruz (Texas), have faced calls to resign or be removed from office over claims that their continued efforts to subvert election results prompted the violent Jan. 6 attack.

Google’s decision to suspend donations came the same day workers announced the formation of a new global union alliance in an effort to hold the tech giant accountable. Alpha Global, named in recognition of Google parent company Alphabet, includes members from 10 countries, including the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom

It follows growing labor pressure on the tech giant and was unveiled just weeks after more than 200 Google employees in the U.S. announced the creation of the Alphabet Workers Union, which has since grown to more than 700 members.

One less cudgel to hold over their heads and test their integrity, or lack thereof, then.

This is what bullies (Big Tech) do to cowards (Republicans). It will only get worse until Republicans start bullying the bullies. I don’t think the Republican party has the intestinal fortitude to defend themselves or their constituents.

Good.

Why did Google donate to them in the first place?

It’s called buying politicians.

It’s why there’s a uniparty and swamp.

Hey, by giving the Republicans 0.0000000000000000001% of their political contributions, they can claim they’re “bipartisan.”

*snort*

My thoughts, too. And then I look back on my life...and realized I should have shot the guy who raped me while my kids looked on. If I had to do it over, I would have bitten off his ear (I did not have a gun or even a knife to defend me)...at least then the police would have known exactly who to look for.

They dropped “don’t be evil” as their motto a few years ago.

Oh, but it’s OK to donate to those who advocate and sanction voter fraud? Got it. /s

“Why did Google donate to them in the first place?”

To keep from having to testify on Section 230 for starters.

...and it worked beautifully for them. Now, with Lin Wood and his flunkies succeeding in handing the Senate to the Democrats, the Google and related companies no longer have a need to control Republicans.

The decision comes after the tech giant implemented an internal review on its political contributions following the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, which was spurred by unsupported claims from former President Trump and his allies that the 2020 election was rigged in favor of President Biden.

What evidence are these unAmerican behemoths holding to say the claims of election integrity are unsupported? How do Google and Facebook know the claims are unsupported?

Where are the reports that show that there were no "show stopper" election irregularities such as outright voter fraud, ballot mishandling, contestable process fouls, equal protection clause violations, voting machine irregularities, and significant statistical anomalies?

Where are the results of deep audits and forensic examination of the voting machines?

Election integrity concerns are a show stopper for the 2020 election. These concerns must be put away by presenting the evidence that all was well, or identifying and fixing irregularities now.

Is big Tech trying to force fit their version of the truth without evidence? Can they get away with that? What happened to Freedom of Speech or innocent until proven guilty?

...........all my long life I’ve been a supporter of no limits on capitalism. Meaning, if a guy could make 200 billion then good for him!

Zuckerberg, Dorsey, Gates and others have now convinced me that there should be limits. These guys just have too much money. I think that half of funds over 10 billion dollars should just be automatically applied to the National Debt NOT placed in the General Fund for the 435 legislators to rob and pillage.
