California: Criminal rings loot billions in jobless funds
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Jan. 25, 202 | MICHAEL R. BLOOD ,

Sophisticated hackers, identity thieves and overseas criminal rings stole over $11 billion in unemployment benefits from California last year, but the extent of the fraud might grow far larger: billions more in payments are under investigation.

California Labor Secretary Julie Su told reporters in a conference call Monday that of the $114 billion the state has paid in unemployment claims, about 10% — or $11.4 billion — have been confirmed as fraudulent.

Nearly $20 billion more — another 17% — is considered suspicious, and a large part of that could be found to be fraud, she said.

KEYWORDS:
While conceding the state was unprepared, Su also faulted the Trump administration for failing to provide the state with the guidance and support needed to foil sophisticated fraud rings

The blame according to the incompetent state manager and the liberal press

The real story

The Audit found:

“In March 2020, the secretary of the Labor and Workforce Development Agency (agency secretary) directed EDD to pay claimants UI benefits before determining whether they met key program eligibility requirements, and EDD expanded this directive to include most program eligibility determinations. In April 2020, the agency secretary further directed EDD to temporarily stop collecting the certifications claimants must regularly submit that assert they remain eligible for benefits.”

Get ready America Biden has appointed the incompetent Julie Su Deputy Secretary of Labor.

Gee, the Washinton State Employment Securities Department Director who lost $500,000,000 to fraud is ALSO being promoted to the Biden Administration.

What are the odds that most of the money went into Joe’s campaign or Hunter’s nose?

“OLYMPIA, WA — The head of Washington’s Employment Security Department is leaving to take a role with the Biden-Harris administration.

The ESD confirmed Friday that Commissioner Suzi LeVine will be leaving her position at the end of January. LeVine was appointed to head the ESD by Gov. Jay Inslee in 2018. Following her announcement, the governor released a statement wishing her well.”

Su is actually right about that. Trump neglected to put this simple warning on the fund documents: “Do not give this money to criminals.”

"... California: Criminal rings loot billions in jobless funds..."

..... Hmmmm .... Any chance that the corrupt California Government actually orchestrated this fraud with willing or unwitting participants (Illegals etc) and pocketed a chunk of this illegal harvest???

“But, officials say, its broad eligibility requirements made it an easy target of criminals, including from Nigeria and Russia.”

Just freaking great!

about 10% — or $11.4 billion — have been confirmed as fraudulent.

These same people will argue that there couldn't have possibly been in election fraud.

Democrats have learned it is easier to ‘steal” from the government when everything is in chaos. They create the chaos and then like magic public funds vanish and no one knows what happen.

California Labor Secretary Julie Su said the state has been totally ripped off and robbed for $11.4 billion.

Ah shucks Julie Su, that’s a shame. But it’s such a trifle insignificant amount. For example, 1 billion is only 1000 million. So it’s only 11.4 x that. They’ll just take it from the CA tax payers. And if anyone complains, they’ll be put on a list and targeted.

Oh poo! Su also faulted the Trump administration for failing to provide the state with the guidance?

Those poor little children had no guidance!

Try to imagine running some private sector business and telling the business owners you just got conned out of 31 BILLION!

But, officials say, its broad eligibility requirements made it an easy target of criminals, including from Nigeria and Russia.

How is it possible they could not have seen that coming? Nobody stopped the state of CA from implementing basic common sense measures of their own. I would love to know if they did basic stuff like a simple brief phone call to the claimants as part of eligibility process?

Can you imagine? Being robbed of 11.4 billion and we’re told 32 billion is the real number...And all they would have had to do was make a brief phone call to each claimant as part of the eligibility process! Then these helpless stupid leftist blame Trump.
