Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who is set to preside over the upcoming impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, was taken to a Washington hospital on Tuesday afternoon after “not feeling well,” his spokesman said.

It has been reported that about 1 week after exposure to the Covid-19 virus, symptoms appear. Trump was speculated to catch the virus on that Saturday when he announced Amy Comey Barrett as his supreme court nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump started showing symptoms around the following Thursday and was transported to the hospital on that Friday. Leahy could have been exposed on January 6, 2021 but that was 20 days ago. So Democrats shouldn’t blame Trump supporters if Leahy indeed has Covid-19.
Gee, I hope nothing bad happens to him and the Republican governor has to choose a replacement.
That would be a real shame.

Here is my plan for the GOP:Keep an eye on Senator Patrick Leahy's health (he's 80 and declining). Start rumors that he's starting to fail mentally. Leave windows open. 😉
If Leahy leaves the Senate, Vermont Governor Phil Scott is a Republican and can appoint a Republican to fill the vacancy. This would take back control of the Senate with 51R - 49D.
Now the pressure is on the liberal Republican Governor of Vermont to defend the party.
In the interim, at least, Republicans will have a majority and Harris will be neutralized.
The impeachment trial must go on without Leahy. They've all be sworn in, what's begun must continue without delay.
