(Jan. 25, 2021) — Iconic bass and guitar intro. “They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway….”
When I was in elementary school that song played in the background of a Radio Free Europe advertisement. (1) I listened to it on a little transistor radio that was given to me at Christmas when I was around nine years old. That 30-second radio spot had a huge impact on me. At that tender age I became cognizant that people existed who were not free and who were not allowed to talk.
Around the same time The Diary of Anne Frank was on television. It was a big deal in our house. My older brothers and sisters talked about it all week before it aired. They were allowed to stay up and watch it but I didn’t make the cut. It came on past my bedtime. I ended up sneaking downstairs, crawling under a table, with some cheddar cheese and raisins to munch on, and watched the movie in the reflection of our dining room window. I’m sure my Mom knew I was there but she didn’t let on.
I think she was impressed by my effort.
By fourth grade I knew enough about the dark forces of communism and fascist dictators to terrify me without even knowing the names of what terrified me.
I knew that little girls and their families had to hide in attics or die. I knew that people were not allowed to talk freely or read a newspaper so they had to hide and talk in whispers and listen to news on a secret radio station. I also knew what the Iron Curtain was.

Just put the money down and you’re on the air. Coast to coast and border to border, and then some...
Maybe it wouldn’t be an awful idea if the government funded two broadcast units and also altered defamation laws —
PBS — government funded, but explicitly run by the DNC. It provides Leftwing propaganda, and everyone knows it.
XXX — government funded, this new network is explicitly run by the RNC. It provides Conservative propaganda, and everyone knows it. Having faux “conservatives” such as George Will or David Brooks should result in lawsuits filed by voters against the RNC which is failing to fulfill its government charter of presenting Conservative news. Judgement on such matters should revolve around the GOP platform which should explicitly state an approved view on abortion, taxes, foreign wars, etc. Using government funds to voice opinions in violation of the platform should be a serious business.
CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, etc. — they play it straight. If they tell an untruth, they can be sued for libel or defamation, with conviction and monetary loss made quite easy. Perhaps stating facts about “what happened yesterday” would be their safest approach to presenting the News.
Will be shutdown because it’d be deemed subversive and nothing but hate speech will come out of it.
Not necessary. Rush Limbaugh was our Radio Free America for over 30 years--and still is, though for how long is in God's hands. Didn't need a dime of government money; between private radio networks and individuals becoming paying dittoheads, he was able to broadcast nationwide. All it takes is the government NOT getting involved, whether to promote or to prohibit.
They will have to broadcast without license from a safe location. Overseas, from sea etc.
It’s something we need to take a serious look at. I suspect that conservative talk radio will be under attack very soon.
Totally agree with that concept. I am usually against government doing, or funding, just about anything. But I think we could benefit from an even playing field — Leftwing station funded with X dollars, and rightwing station funded by X dollars. Editorializing takes place in that arena and in no other. Cancel culture? Lawfare? Go away! You’re fighting the 2 government propaganda organs and they don’t care about your little Cancel Culture game.
Otherwise, we have 27 Leftwing stations all battling against Rush Limbaugh, who — OMG! — has cancer. Now we’re totally screwed. I don’t like that scenario.
Things definitely have turned around. Now foreign countries are sending Christian missionaries to the USA. In the ‘60s when my life plan was to go to Liberia (I didn’t go), I never would have thought that things would flip so drastically.
Three mile limit like casino’s? Have a ship out there; didn’t something like that happen back in history where this ship was offshore of the US doing some kind of b’casting?
bump to the top
Radio Free America would have to be based in some country where it will not be persecuted that has similar ideals as the Old USA. Some place like one of the former soviet block nations perhaps even Russia? They seem to celebrate at least morality and Christianity more than this giverment does. Certainly Poland would work.
The next problem is how to keep the ferds from jamming the signal. Not even the internet would be a safe interference free media.
The Old Republic and the new demockracy. The Old Republic is dead.
I’d really like to see it though. Some blowtorch station that blasts out truth and expose of the frauds of giverment 24 hours a day as well as ridicule and lampoon of the frauds just for entertainment.
