CINCINNATI — Senator Rob Portman announced Monday morning that he would not seek re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2022.
"This was not an easy decision because representing the people of Ohio has been an honor," Portman said. "But I’ve been doing this a long time, longer than I ever intended."
WCPO is updating this story.
Good news. The old farts are retiring, the GOP is ripe for a Trumpian takeover.

This means he is now free to vote to convict DJT in the senate.
He is citing partisan gridlock as his main reason for leaving.
Good, the RINO’s need a purge.
Good, because I wouldn’t have voted for that POS. I hope that karma takes care of him.
31 years at the public trough, time to go!
Another Rich Spoiled Trust Fund Kid who thought he was above the common people.
“He is citing partisan gridlock as his main reason for leaving.”
In other words, he’s tired of taking heat for voting like a Dem. He’s plundered the treasury enough that he doesn’t need any more money, and if he does, there are always the “in network” jobs.
GTH Portman.
Ok people. Time to recruit. My pick is Jim Jordan He may be too important where he is but if there’s anyone better let me know. I even once thought it should be the mailman’s son.
If there is a Senate impeachment trial, any bets Portman would vote to convict?
Me too! Portman is and always has been a POS politician.
Clears the way to vote to convict Trump. Will join Toomey and Murkowski.
GOOD!!! Freaking only comment during Sen. Ron Johnson’s Senate hearing on election isssues was to say that he wanted to make a bi-partisan panel to discuss and create a list of state best practices in terms of voting....FOR NEXT ELECTION. He had absolutely nothing of substance to say about the cheating from this election other than to make some small mention that Trump’s claims needed to stop.
This sure looks to me that Portman will be voting to convict Trump.
Great news. Now, if we could get rid of Sherrod Brown in 2024, Ohio’s senators might end up reflecting how conservative the state has been for the last decade.
“...longer than I ever intended.”
Somehow, I doubt that! See Ya!
Let’s get a Trumpian in there to fill this seat!
I would like to believe that this has something to do with the strongly worded letter I wrote him on Jan 5th about wanting him to take a stand against the EC vote.
He will vote for impeachment, stab his constituents in the back, then walk out the door.
