Yes and particularly now when the CCP Virus is causing workers who can’t work from home to avoid mass transit and use their cars to commute.
So will guarantee continued work from home for many workers, killing commercial real estate restaurants fast food local business.
If you insure your vehicles, your insurance company has your mileage.
Also, in California, they have moveable trracking stations which track and plot vehicle traffic from homes to destinations. That data is used to determine where and when to repair roads.
Then, when you get on any expressway, you are greeted with electrical signs telling you how long it will take to day from your entrance to the various exits. Anyone want to guess how they do that?
Next they'll want to tax luxury yachts and put the laborers out of work.
Of course the Teamsters would be excluded.
Bootygag doesn’t think in miles. My guess is that he prefers being driven eight to ten inches at a time.
Would it also apply to trucks? My state’s roads and safety would be grossly improved if fewer trucks were speeding through at 90 mph. More rail transit would be welcome as trucks immediately destroy all road improvements.
Mine dropped a little bit via Progressive
“Social Security and Medicare Withholding Rates
The current tax rate for social security is 6.2% for the employer and 6.2% for the employee, or 12.4% total. The current rate for Medicare is 1.45% for the employer and 1.45% for the employee, or 2.9% total.”
Additionally the wage difference between tier zero, the unskilled broom pusher, and tier 2 with minimal skills but trainable, becomes smaller causing dissatisfaction with attendant demands for wage and so on up the ladder. Resulting hidden higher percentage based actual costs to the employer and passed on to customers. Inflation across the board...Zimbabwe here we come.
That might add up to significant mileage over a year’s time.
Not if you only carry liability.
“I thought the same thing. I come from a family of engineers and they’re already talking about this.”
WE have a younger DNA pool lad who was accepted at about a dozen engineering schools without applying.
He and his classmates could create the way to do this in a single afternoon while online.
It won’t be by odometer. It will track your gps mileage.
The cabbies do. So do Uber and Lyft.
Probably not. Which means drivers will now get taxed twice. On both the gas they buy and the miles they drive. How soon before they try to tax us on the air conditioning used in the cars!
It will be IN ADDITION TO the gas tax.
Bureaucratic parasites never give up a tax.
BOL! About 2 dozen years ago my wife told a liberal at a neighborhood Christmas party that reality and how tolls never stop like the Golden Gate Bridge.
I thought he was going to stroke out. I about put him into the local ICU, when I offered him $100 in front of everyone to name one tax or toll at the state level that was ever considered to be done.
Why this instead of the absurdly easier gas tax? Because they want to tax electric cars.
It seriously targets rural dwellers.
My odometer doesn’t work. Sue me.
It would be terrible if those of us driving beaters just threw a different instrument cluster in there in time for inspection.
