Louisiana pastor facing murder charge running for Congress from jail 3 days ago Louisiana Daily News
Victor was charged with murder in 2008 following the death of his 8-year-old stepson, M.L. Lloyd III.
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. — A St. John the Baptist pastor whose 2014 murder conviction was thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court last year is now running for Congress from his jail cell in central Louisiana while he waits for a new trial.
Errol Victor Sr., 54, qualified Thursday to run as a Republican in the 5th Congressional District for the seat left vacant when Congressman-elect Luke Letlow died of complications from COVID-19 before he could take office.
Victor is one of seven candidates vying for the seat in a special election in March. Letlow’s widow, Julia Letlow, is widely considered a frontrunner for the seat.

Typical Louisiana politics.
It’s hard to knock on doors from a prison cell.
But if Biden can win the Presidency from his basement why can’t this guy win from his prison cell?
SO, this “republican” is funded by the democrats to run as a repubbie and dilute/disgust the conservative voters from showing up for the primaries and election?
Beat the boy over an ice cream.
140 S.Ct. 2715 (2020)
Errol VICTOR, Sr., Petitioner,
v.
LOUISIANA.
No. 19-5989.
Supreme Court of United States.
April 27, 2020.
On petition for writ of certiorari to the Court of Appeal of Louisiana, Fifth Circuit. Motion of petitioner for leave to proceed in forma pauperis and petition for writ of certiorari granted.
Judgment vacated, and case remanded to the Court of Appeal of Louisiana, Fifth Circuit for further consideration in light of Ramos v. Louisiana, 590 U.S. ___, 140 S.Ct. 1390, 206 L.E.2d 583 (2020).
Justice Alito, concurring in the decision to grant, vacate, and remand: In this and in all other case in which the Court grants, vacates, and remands in light of Ramos v. Louisiana, I concur in the judgment on the understanding that the Court is not deciding or expressing a view on whether the question was properly raised below but is instead leaving that question to be decided on remand.
Justice Thomas would deny the petition for a writ of certiorari.

“ On April 1, 2008, the eight-year-old boy M.L. Lloyd, III, was brought to the emergency room at River Parishes Hospital in St. John the Baptist Parish, unresponsive, by his mother, co-defendant Tonya Otkins Victor (”Mrs. Victor”),[3] his step-father, defendant Errol Victor, Sr., and his step-brother, Errol Victor, Jr. Emergency room *138 personnel were unable to revive him. During emergency treatment, after M.L.’s clothes were removed, it was discovered that his backside from his neck to his knees was covered in deep bruises. Other injuries were discovered as well: M.L.’s buttocks were both scraped, he had wounds on his forearm, and an injury to his neck.”

Why did his conviction get thrown out?
It was a non-unanimous jury decision.
The Supreme Court decision was posted - but they don’t state it directly.
You would have to know what the ‘Ramos’ decision was.
Louisiana finally rejoined the normal world on this issue. If the State want to send you to jail, they have to get a unanimous jury decision.
After Reconstruction, Louisiana went with a reduced verdict (originally 9-3 then later 10-2). There was a bad Supreme Court decision about 50 years prior 4-4-1 The 1 setting the crazy policy to continue.
In Ramos, Gorsuch wrote the decision overturning this long standing bad policy. I believe Kavanaugh and Thomas both wrote decisions concurring.
Louisiana had changed their Constitution just the year before, but made the change only affect future cases. The courts are reviewing the prior cases and overturning where appropriate.
Victor remains in jail and awaits a retrial.
Thanks for the pictures.
So which one did the beating?
Louisiana pastors Jimmy Swaggart and Mike Murdock should be in jail for being such filthy hucksters! I’ve got your “seed” right here Mike!
Thank you for explaining, I could never read through those docs and understand this, and as you say I’d’ve needed to google Ramos!
So, this man is almost certainly guilty as charged and will be tried again for his crime(s). Does seem like that could have happened already, but I suppose he’s been in jail the whole time anyway.
I won’t get into his running for office. I’ll just say RIP for the poor child who was murdered.
