WASHINGTON (AP) — A growing number of Republican senators say they oppose holding an impeachment trial, a sign of the dimming chances that former President Donald Trump will be convicted on the charge that he incited a siege of the U.S. Capitol.
House Democrats, who will walk the impeachment charge of “incitement of insurrection” to the Senate on Monday evening, are hoping that strong Republican denunciations of Trump after the Jan. 6 riot will translate into a conviction and a separate vote to bar Trump from holding office again. But GOP passions appear to have cooled since the insurrection, and now that Trump’s presidency is over, Republican senators who will serve as jurors in the trial are rallying to his legal defense, as they did during his first impeachment trial last year.
“I think the trial is stupid, I think it’s counterproductive,” said Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.. He said that “the first chance I get to vote to end this trial, I’ll do it” because he believes it would be bad for the country and further inflame partisan divisions.

If he is any of these he is concerned with his chronicles, record of his achievements, accomplishments, saved in his senatorial memorial library to be built, in Utah so his worshipers can come and reminisce how great he was. Almost equal to Joseph Smith in stature.
With 750,000 faxes, letters disagreeing with his agenda, policy, votes would that make a difference. What percentage of 75,000,000 voters is that? Even just .01% would suffice. jmho.
Thin he is all the above and more, wants to be considered in history as a man of the people and stood up for what is right. With a stack of letters saying he is not, don’t think he want that blemish against his achievements!

I’m sure they have heard from the really angry voters that they need in less than 2 years..If they figure we’ll forget by 2022,they are dumber than even I think they are....
Didn;t wait for facts or due process..The broad(and I use the term loosely) just wanted to hang Trump and then listen to the facts...

The Constitution says the Chief Justice shall preside over an impeachment trial of a “President for the purpose of removal.”
Trump is no longer president.
If Democrats don’t have the Chief Justice presiding, it’s not a trial, it’s just a show.
