States Eye Allowing Concealed Carry of Guns Without a Permit

Republican lawmakers in several more states want to loosen gun restrictions by allowing people to carry concealed firearms without having to get a permit, continuing a trend that gun control advocates call dangerous.

Fifteen states already allow concealed carry without a permit, and lawmakers in nine others have proposed allowing or expanding the practice. GOP governors are backing the changes in Utah and Tennessee. Another bill expanding permitless carry in Montana has passed the state House.

Against that backdrop, the efforts to loosen concealed carry requirements are a frightening trend for Shannon Watts, founder of the gun control group Moms Demand Action.

“It is dangerous to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns possibly without a background check or any training,” she said, adding that the annual rate of aggravated assaults with a firearm has increased 71% in Alaska since the state became the first to allow concealed carry without a permit in 2003.

Marxists always say they’ll be blood in the streets if we let honest citizens carry guns. This is old and a disproven lie to disarm us...period. We all know criminals will carry regardless. The strictest gun control cities have the highest crime. The 2A can not be infringed for any reason whatsoever...

It should be noted that permitless carry still requires you to be a law abiding person that is not disqualified to carry a firearm. It does not circumvent any laws. It just eliminates the permission piece of paper, and reduces the hoops you have to jump through to exercise a right.

Exactly. That’s the way it is here in KY. Same rules apply for open carry as well. You may have noticed a lot of the stupid didn’t make its way outside of lib strongholds Louisville and Lexington as far as the BLM/Breonna Taylor protests/riots.

Before they issue a permit in my county - Buncombe- the Sherri f contacts the area mental health facilities to see if you’ve been a patient.

The Communist/Fascists always say there will be blood in the
street if they don’t take guns away from citizens.

And then they make the blood run in the streets, because the
citizens can’t fight back.

Fyi, You have to “KNOW SOMEBODY IMPORTANT” to even get a MD permit & as a retired LEO, I can tell you that MD is “unfriendly” to former LEOs who CAN LAWFULLY CARRY a concealed handgun under LEOSA.

MD is an EXCELLENT EXAMPLE of why that “may issue” is a BAD IDEA.
(I once knew a physician from MD, who was “quietly told” that the sheriff “would see to you being granted a carry license”, provided that, “-——— you make a 5,000 dollar donation to his re-election committee”.)

yours, satx

Dear Shannon (low) Watts: criminals will conceal and carry regardless of legality, so your alleged worries are misplaced. Maybe too many miscreants are moving to Alaska, causing the "crime wave." Or maybe Alaska has so few incidents that three more caused the 71% increase.

Well, Vermont for many years had virtually no gun control including no permits required for concealed or open carry and that was accompanied by little or no violent crime at all in that state until the tree huggers made Burlington a sanctuary city and began demanding the first state restrictions on guns in a long time.

When seconds count the NRA is only lawyers away.

As the article noted:

"Most states require people to do things like get weapons training and undergo a background check to get a permit to carry a gun hidden by a jacket or inside a purse. Groups like the National Rifle Association... argue those requirements are ineffective and undermine Second Amendment protections."

So, you disagree with constitutional carry, and think training & background checks should be required? Or what?

No kidding.

Lockdown Larry has refused to repeal or do anything at all about the draconian 2013 laws put into place “for the children.”

I remember he was asked about it and he saw no need to do anything.

The difference between “shall issue” and Constitutional carry is small.

Whether you have a physical license or not, the first thing any cop will do if you come to his attention is ask for a database records check.
