Babylon 5 and Lost actress Mira Furlan has died at the age of 65, her family and management have confirmed. Furlan played Minbari Ambassador Delenn in the 1990s sci-fi TV drama, Babylon 5, and Danielle Rousseau in the noughties mystery drama, Lost. Her family told the BBC the Croatian actress died on Wednesday due to complications with West Nile Virus. "It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of Mira Furlan" the statement read. "She was a woman full of kindness, strength and compassion." It continued: "She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her family. "We will all continue to celebrate her life and legacy, and know she'll always be here with us." West Nile virus is spread by mosquitoes in many countries, but not in the UK, according to the NHS website.

Why does it seem like their cast are dying a lot faster than those of Star Trek?

Strangely, I had a hard time “getting in to” the 1st season, when it came out. But then I saw a few 2nd Season episodes part way through (might have started with “All Alone In The Night” and “And Now For A Word”?) and I was hooked.

Per JMS on Twitter, apparently Mira’s husband brought her home for her last days. Peter Jurassic (”Londo”, for unfamiliar readers) called JMS to tell him of that. Tough stuff.

Maybe the some of the cast and crews did not get along in the real world.

At first glimpse, B5 looked hokey.

The cast often joked about how they rented space at a hotub manufacturer/warehouse in a small industrial park north of Burbank to use as their studio. They would laugh at the image of Andreas Katsulas in full costume standing out on the street smoking a cigarette while everyone else would stare at him.

Never watched it, I was tired of all the Star Trek takeoffs. However, I feel bad for her, family, and all her fans. Maybe I’ll binge watch it.

Delenn was great, in a show that had a lot of fantastic, and well developed characters. My favorite quote from the show was from Ivanova:

"Who am I? I am Susan Ivanova, Commander, daughter of Andrei and Sophie Ivanov. I am the right hand of vengeance, and the boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to Earth ... I am Death incarnate, and the last living thing that you are ever going to see. God sent me."

Ivanova was a badass.

Yes, season one is somewhat weak and episodic, until after watching later seasons you see how he was setting up the chessboard.

From what I understand, he knew where he was going, to a higher degree of detail than you ever see in TV, before they shot the first scene of episode 1.

Yes he did, but like in he early chapters he had to set the board up. The most important event in Season One is “What do you want?”

Ambassador Londo Mollari:
Do you really want to know what I want? Do you really want to know the truth? I want my people to reclaim their rightful place in the galaxy. I want to see the Centauri stretch forth their hand again and command the stars. I want a rebirth of glory, a renaissance of power! I want to stop running through my life like a man late for an appointment, afraid to look back or look forward. I want us to be what we used to be! I want... I want it all back the way it was. Does that answer your question?

[Londo leaves]

Mr. Morden:
Yes. Yes, it does.

Part of the issue was that the Shadow war was supposed to have gone on longer, but the studios/network looked like they were going to cut the series to 4 seasons. As a result, everything got crammed into season 4, and when season 5 was approved, they had to rush without the development that the rest of the series had.

I really liked the series. Having a story arc was something you didn’t see at the time as both of the previous Star Trek series had been one off episodes mostly.

The special effects were really primitive in the first season but got way better in the second season as CGI started to come of age.

Peter Jurassic’s character Londo Mollari was by far my favorite. He had more character development than anyone else.

Yes, it would have been a much better if they hadn’t rushed season 4.

It is the “Shadows” killing them off from Babylon 5.
At least 6 have passed away.
