Babylon 5 and Lost actress Mira Furlan has died at the age of 65, her family and management have confirmed. Furlan played Minbari Ambassador Delenn in the 1990s sci-fi TV drama, Babylon 5, and Danielle Rousseau in the noughties mystery drama, Lost. Her family told the BBC the Croatian actress died on Wednesday due to complications with West Nile Virus. "It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of Mira Furlan" the statement read. "She was a woman full of kindness, strength and compassion." It continued: "She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her family. "We will all continue to celebrate her life and legacy, and know she'll always be here with us." West Nile virus is spread by mosquitoes in many countries, but not in the UK, according to the NHS website.

PS - I did build a real nice model of a Starfury once upon a time.
So yesterday we learned that an actress died by a UTI.
Today we learn that an actress died by West Nile Virus.
Interesting that under the Biden administration nobody is dying of Covid any more.
That you did.
Another favorite Delenn memory is from Season 5, when Sheridan and Franklin were in Sheridan’s office discussing how crazy things were. Sheridan said “I swear, if anyone else around here acts crazy, I’ll shoot myself!”. Right then, Delenn storms into the office, obviously massively honked off, and yells, “Bastards!!”. Franklin says, “Did she just say...?”, Sheridan replies, “She did.” Franklin says “I’ll get the gun.”
Horrible news. Another member of the cast of the best science fiction series ever broadcast is gone

Horrible indeed.
Such a shame Straczynski was never allow time or money to round out the series and finish Crusade.
Babylon 5 is the only SciFi series that spoke to the human condition, wonderment of the Universe, mystery, religion, and Good verses Evil. The acting was not always the best. The scripts, however, were memorable and all interconnected - something very rare in the SciFi movie world, if not unique .
Her acting made the role come alive and lent the rest of the story arc credence
I have the entire series, movies and all, maybe this is the time to watch it again for the 4th or 5th time.
Rest in Peace, Mira Furlan - you will be remembered for a long, long time.
RIP also: Michael O’Hare, Jerry Doyle, Richard Biggs, Bill Mumy, Stephen Furst, Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Conaway, Tim Choate, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr
Um...Bill Mumy is still very much alive.
Bill Mumy’s still here. Interestingly, he is a year older than Mira, but his character seemed significantly younger.
So is Peter Jurasik.
Oh man. That’s sad. I liked her as Delenn. B5 was a great show.
If folks read her Twitter feed, they might not miss her so much.
Wow.
Very sad news. I loved her outfits.
This was an excellent series—but Season 3 was the masterpiece—never been topped.
Not surprised she was another Hollywierd liberal. Always separate the character from the actor lest you be disappointed.
“Right after Tanya Roberts, same age.”
Sepsis from a urinary infection...... What killed my mother.
Unfortunately not at all uncommon.
I separate the actress from the character:
Mira Furlan’s political opinions have no bearing on her acting and how she and J. Michael Straczynski’s writing breathed life into the character of Ambassador Delenn.
I do the same with writers. Some writers I like are obnoxious people, but still gifted writers.
My only real exception to this is Marion Zimmer Bradley, as I draw a line at child molestation.
Shocking that they were truthful about the cause of death.
Perhaps because Biden is president now?
Yes, I thought 65 was the new 55
I will miss Mira Furlan. B5 was my favorite show of all time.
‘Um...Bill Mumy is still very much alive.’
as is Peter Jurasik...
Yes, that was one of the most hilarious scenes of the whole series.
