Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told “Just the News” on Friday that the Democratic-led Senate and House will vote in favor of statehood for the District of Columbia and send the bill to President Joe Biden’s desk, who has expressed support for D.C. statehood in the past.
Bowser said, “The nation’s capital, the federal enclave, continues to exist as the nation’s capital and everything outside of those new boundaries becomes the 51st state. Our congresswoman – we had our first successful vote on statehood in the House of Representatives last year. She reintroduced the bill. She has a record number of sponsors.”

How can a foreign territory be declared a U S state? DC was sold to the Vatican in 1871 and is a foreign territory. Is there anyone one in Congress w the b all’s to admit this fact??? Do the research folks.

They wouldn't actually have to live there. Build three houses for them and they would only have to go to the atoll to vote for each other in elections.
That will mean Civil War! There is no state in this union that will put up with DC as its own state! The most powerful state on the planet!
If DC is the only place you own a home or pay rent then it is kind of hard for the IRS to find and tax you. Many students do not because they can still claim their parent’s home and state and vote absentee.
Sorry, as a minimum an area has to have about 700,000 people to have a representative in Congress.

A main reason Alexandria politicians want to leave DC was because of some change in the slave laws. I think it may have been embarrassment at having a slave market in full view of downtown and reaction of foreign visitors and diplomats. So I guess if embarrassment over slavery was a good reason, maybe embarrassment before other countries whose capital residents have full citizen rights might make a good argument for DC Statehood since now they pay full federal taxes but have not vote on how their money is spent by the government.
DC and MD voters have no interest in a marriage (retrocession). If mostly Dem. northern Virginia rejoined DC, DC would have 2 Reps and 2 Senators. VA politics would lean more Republican, and might get one or two Republican Senators back.
My son and PR wife live in PR. We have talked several times recently. He knows I like politics and never mentioned any such vote. When did she say this vote took place? I know there was one a few years ago.
Since we’re in a post-Constitutional, post-rule of law era, we don’t need any minimums, y’know ?
Those Republicans who wanted a “peaceful transition” to the Dems aren’t going to get it, regardless.
