Now it is true that rural Americans don't feel the need to wear masks when they are not near anybody else. I am sure the same is true for rural Americans of all races. We haven't lost our common sense yet, and when the neighbors are 1/2 mile away you really don't need a mask to go outside and start up the tractor.

This survey doesn’t seem to differentiate between outside and inside. Wearing a mask while outside is very redundant. It’s almost impossible to catch the virus outside. One study of 7000 cases traced only 2 to outside transmission.
If I were surveyed about “when in contact with the public”, my answer would be completely dependent on outside v inside mask wearing. I’m outside in the public a lot, unmasked—in parks, outdoor wineries and restaurants, or walking in the neighborhood mostly—but inside (stores, doctors), always masked.
