Anatoliy Golitsyn was a Soviet KGB defector and author on the long-term deception policy of the KGB communist leadership.
In 1984, Golitsyn published the book New Lies For Old, where he warned about a long-term deception strategy of seeming retreat from hard-line Communism designed to lull the West into a false sense of security. The book also included a section that is relevant to today.
“Operation Trust” was a Bolshevik Counter-Intelligence honeypot trap to identify anti-communist patriots by having them wait for a secret military plan that didn’t exist.
The communist operation from 1921 to 1926 aimed at neutralizing the anti-communist opposition by creating the false impression that a powerful group of military leaders had organized to stop the communists’ takeover. Then the Bolsheviks then later arrested and persecuted those involved.

True, but it got hijacked, methinks. Fed purposeful disinformation by the feds, to split the MAGA movement into factions, and launch 100 goose chases instead of focusing on helping Trump directly. Like showing up at the Senate, beating on doors, demanding Sessions be fired and Trump gets his pick.
I always assumed most followers knew it was a ‘for entertainment only’ type thing much like I figure the flat earth society in the modern age is. I’m surprised there were people taking it seriously.
Personally I never cared for their ‘where 1 goes we all go’ or whatever the tag line was - I’m not a fan of crowds.
Do a google site search for "widget jr" qanon site:freerepublic.com. I have posted more than once that people who created explained it was a hoax early on, and provided links to back up that claim. So far no one claiming psychological warfare has been able to refute that. If som esome Democrat, FBI, CIA, or "deep state" operation took it over afterwards after the creators explained it, then the Deep state is not to be blamed for how gullible people are. Confirmation bias is one hell of a drug.

I agree it was a hoax that got hijacked and repouposed....me personally I think that evidence on who hijacked it can be found by looking at the so called proofs that dealt with trumps twitter account. at some point proofs were offered of trump being connected to Q via tweets and Q postings on 8chan and now known as 8 kun. theses tweets and postings would happen within seconds of each other and the content would be of the same theme. I believe that this points to some one monitering trumps tweets while he composed them. the easiest way this could be done is for someone at twitter doing the monitoring from there server which would give the person real time access to the tweets while they were composed. I believe that if you m took the work schedule of tech engineers working at twitter you will find that theses proofs coincide to the work schedule of those involved. I also be you will find evidence on the server of posts coming through there network to 8 chan. for this reason I think that those involved can be found and it can be proven that they were involved.....this does not prove who is in charge sevral difrent groups could be involved this could be state ran intelligence operation. or tech billionaires
qanon was the most commonly used hashtag by Russian state twitter accounts starting Fall 2017. Are we allowed to talk about Russia continuously sowing dissent on American social media yet, or is that still too uncomfortable because their efforts often looked pro-Trump?

This is important because Trump could’ve put a stop to it with one tweet.
That means either (a) he was in on the Soviet-style plot or (b) he ignored it because it was a harmless prank.
