The evidence that the second dose can be delayed for three months looks shaky - not even the manufacturers recommend it.
Vaccines have to work in the real world, not in the artificial bubble of a clinical trial.
So the findings from Israel's impressively-rapid rollout of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine are troubling.
They suggest the UK's decision to delay the second dose exposes the elderly and vulnerable to a significantly higher risk of infection than we were told by the government's vaccines advisers.
But the stats from Israel suggests that the efficacy of one dose is just 33%.
The Israeli scientists believe the UK experts have significantly overestimated the immunity from one dose of the vaccine.
The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine uses mRNA technology that has never before been rolled out to protect people in the real world.
Two doses look spectacularly effective. That's been shown in the clinical trials.

Apparently, the definition of “spectacularly effective” is only 1 hospitalization out of ~21,500 (vaccinated), vs 9 out of ~21,500 (placebo). [Pfizer trials].

I’ve heard one dose is 50%. Even at that, it’s a foolish idea. If people want it, they should be able to get the recommended, prescribed dose as it is intended to be administered. That’s how it was tested & approved. No one knows what the effect of waiting several months in between will be. They may end up having to get a 3rd inoculation.
How does this 33% vaccine compare to a small shot of ivermectin?

All of this is the largest Phase III clinical trial and I am not willing to be a study participant. No thanks.

One dose is not as effective in real life as the clinical trials and now they are trying to convince us that two doses in the clinical trials is *spectacularly effective* as if it will be in real life?

Right. And even at that, no tested or demonstrated ability to keep one from getting infected —only making those infected a bit less likely to be symptomatic to the level of needing hospitalization. That is, it doesn’t fit the traditional definition of a vaccine at all.
