A last-ditch effort to persuade President Donald Trump to issue a pre-emptive pardon to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is reportedly being blocked by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, according to reports.
A high-level source in the Trump administration reported to Breitbart News that while the President is sympathetic to pardoning Assange, Cipollone is not — and the continued opposition of the White House counsel is making a pardon increasingly unlikely.
Trump could still overrule Cipollone if he wished – he has the legal authority to do so – but it appears that the President continues to heed the latter’s advice.
In a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, the establishment newspaper praised Cipollone for reining in President Trump in the closing days of his administration, “when the easier route would be to resign to outside applause.”
Condemning President Trump’s recent words and behavior, the Journal praised officials like Cipollone for putting the brakes on the President.
“Every official has to search his conscience amid Mr. Trump’s actions, and outside moral judgment is easy and often wrong. Many good people are trying to prevent more bad decisions,” said the Journal.
Outside of the administration, high-profile conservatives and Republicans have urged President Trump to pardon Julian Assange.
These voices include Tucker Carlson, who once again urged the President to trust his instincts in a segment that aired yesterday.
Assange’s primary crime, said Carlson, was “humiliating the powerful.”

Time out! Pelosi violated 6 laws in her phoney House impeachment. The Senate cannot touch Trump if he is gone at noon tomorrow. “Sources say...” are not even 50% accurate because it’s all just made up.
Exactly. That’s why I called it a “shampeachment.”
And Trump can F him back by telling his voters next year to screw over the GOP and don’t vote
Sad to say but a-hole lawyers, NeverTrumpers and other Swamp scum pretty much ran the show for 4 years. It was magnificent when he was actually able to get things done without them being involved.
The D.C. Swamp appears to be scared as hell of a pardon for Assange and or Snowden.
Why would Trump want to pardon a Russian asset?
If Trump were convicted on the present impeachment he would lose his Secret Service protection, his pension of $255,000 a year, and other things. I would love to see Assange and Snowden pardoned, but Trump has his family and himself to consider, and I would rather he have a peaceful life. I appreciate all his efforts on our behalf.
From what I understand, Trump will not lose SS protection, nor ant pension. The protection rules are a separate law or code and is not affected by a conviction on impeachment.
Pardon Bradley “Chelsea” Manning’s buddy? What for?
Why would McConnell not want Assange’s freedom? Does Assange have dirt on him?
Assange conspired with LulzSec, a spinoff of Anonymous, a hacker group that was working to bring down capitalism.
LulzSec’s hacker Jeremy went to the University of Chicago. He bragged about meeting with Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers. Jeremy claimed that he was working with Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, a black supremacist group in Chicago, as a part of his work with Anonymous, to promote an Islamic takeover of the United States.
Assange also cooperated with Bradley a/k/a Chelsea Manning.
Fair enough. Can anybody PEACEABLY, LEGALLY get to The Turtle?

Former US military intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning has questioned Barack Obama’s legacy after the former Democratic president commuted her sentence last week, and is calling for “an unapologetic progressive leader” to fight for minorities’ rights. While not mentioning US President Donald Trump by name, Manning wrote in Britain’s the Guardian that “after eight years of attempted compromise and relentless disrespect in return, we are moving into darker times” and urged Democrats not to compromise. Trump responded in a tweet, calling her a traitor and criticising the decision to release her. “Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released...
Trump isn’t interested in pardoning Assange, any more than he approved of Obama releasing Assange’s associate Chelsea Manning, the traitor.
If Rep. activists in KY do a recall effort-(lots of work but great way to connect and build a coalition for later) they can also help pave the road for other ER issues like Dominion voting machines & Lord knows what else will pop up.

Government leaker and transgender rights advocate Chelsea Manning entered the U.S. Senate race in Maryland to huge fanfare this year, but her campaign is poised to wind down quietly Tuesday when voters head to the polls on primary day. Ms. Manning promised to shake up the race, using her high profile to push a platform that included creating a universal health care system, abolishing federal law enforcement agencies such as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and combating what she called the American “police state.” But the strain of being in the public eye after seven years in prison for leaking...
That would be the logical conclusion.. They’re all dirty except a handful.
Trump should just pull out a piece of paper 15 minutes before leaving and issue whatever pardons he wants.
Assange didn't hack data or spy for anyone. He merely published info that was sent to him -- no different that what the New York Times does every day, and no one there is going to jail either.
And let's face it, the Bush administration was pulling some pretty big shenanigans in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it led many of our young people to their death as a result.
