U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, said in a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday that "the mob was fed lies" before the violent Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. "They were provoked by the president and other powerful people,"...McConnell last week said he would listen to the arguments presented during the Senate trial before deciding how to vote on the impeachment charge of inciting an insurrection that resulted in the siege of the Capitol.

There was certainly some crazy stuff going around. There were clear cases of people just not knowing what the process was, and of people ‘playing telephone’ with what was seen.

That said, there was a pretty complete lack of transparency, combined with a consistent pattern of the judicial to refuse to deal with it, and things like a complaint about Fulton and DeKalb, GA county’s signatures/envelopes being responded to by having an opaque review of Cobb County’s signatures. That is flatly obstructionist and deceitful.

So, yes, they were being fed lies.

We have years to make sure that new, honest poll workers are doing their duty in those problem neighborhoods. We have years to educate the American people around us to pursue their best interests instead of dumping on their neighbors.
