President Donald Trump is leaving office with a higher approval rating and the Republican Party on better footing than after President George W. Bush exited the office in 2009, when the younger Bush saw historically low ratings.
According to RealClearPolitics’ aggregate of polls, Trump is moving out of the White House with a nearly 40 percent approval rating overall. Bush enjoyed just under 30 percent of Americans on his side at this same point in his presidency.
One recent poll by the Pew Research Center made headlines this month. It was conducted in the aftermath of the attacks on Capitol Hill and showed Trump on his way out with the same approval rating as his last Republican predecessor, at 29 percent. Yet the poll is an outlier among seven other surveys conducted entirely in the aftermath of the latest Capitol riots, showing Trump’s approval well above 30 percent. The most recent poll included in the RealClear average, from Rasmussen and conducted Jan. 11-14, shows Trump with a 48 percent approval rating.
At the same point in Bush’s presidency, days before the incoming Democrat’s inauguration, the outgoing president also saw a poll illustrating public support below the outgoing average at 22 percent, still far lower than the survey results from the Pew Research Center released on Trump Friday.
The ousted one-term Republican has also left his party in better shape than it was in when he took office, transforming the GOP into an increasingly multi-racial, working-class party and with Democrats holding razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate after capturing the White House.

Only one party got more white this election, and it wasn’t the Republican Party. https://t.co/q0Gjr8CosI

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will now preside over a 10-vote majority, compared to a 79-vote majority as Bush left office in 2009. In the Senate, Democrats now hold a majority merely because they control the White House. Vice President Kamala Harris will be the tie-breaking vote in a 50-50 Senate where West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin looms large and has a red-state constituency to satisfy.
In 2009, Democrats held a 59-41 majority and the chamber’s two independent members caucused with the Democrats. Democrats later claimed a 60-40 supermajority once then-Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter switched parties early in the Congress.
For all the negative headlines about Trump, it’s clear the president remains far more unpopular in the media establishment driven by beltway narratives than in the rest of the country.
He got 75 million votes. These people are spinning
Let history be the judge. I honestly think Trump’s marks will go up as time goes on.
Setting a low bar.
This is so sad. I dread tomorrow.
Yea and Obama and Clinton was cracking 65% but both of the people they wanted to take over lost. Funny how that works
Actually he probably got in the range of 77 - 80 million.
The more I see of the numbers, it’s clear that’s what happened. They went really big, and the DNC/Pelosi Mafia Omerta on it is being ruthlessly enforced. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of people face down in a ditch to keep them from talking about what really was done.
Comment: they keep being surprised by high poll numbers for Trump. It’s not suprising: they can’t control all the pollsters, so their numbers reflect the real electorate, and it’s obvious they voted in numbers way over for Trump vice what was “certified”.
He was a Helluva Lot Better President than Bush, and did more in four years than Bush did in eight!
These polls are LIES LIES LIES. Millions of us were NEVER polled, all 4 years of that great man’s administration. And now, a military junta will be installed, and they will LIE and say his polls are AWESOME all the time.
But....but....gallop claims he has the lowest number ever recorded
I wonder how long it’s going to be before the Socialist Democrats truly realize the MONSTER they have created by cheating ‘We The People’ out of our President.
I’m depressed these days, but am greatly looking forward to President Trump’s return in whatever form he chooses that to be.
Right now he deserves some down time. I pray for his safety and that of his family. Amen!
40% my ass!
Good freakin grief.
I’d like to think so, but he is going to be attacked so much
that the public will come away with the impression he’s
dirty.
Of course we will still respect him, but others will see him
as the press portrays him, and that will be bad.
More like 80 million most likely.
This is on Rasmussen today
“Tuesday, January 19, 2021
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Sponsored by SLANTED from Sharyl Attkisson, for Monday shows that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-eight percent (48%) disapprove.”
Don’t know what the “SLANTED” thing means but this is from the Rasmussen website.

Yes. It’s more like 80 million. But to maintain credibility I use 75
No one knows how many Biden won. His voters show no Curiosity. Nor do news outlets.
Where’s Tucker with Bidens numbers.
Correct...And the GOP is the entity that ought be worried about unpopularity.
Just received this..."Sustaining Members are the lifeblood of the Republican Party, and we'll be relying on you heavily these next TWO YEARS to help us secure Republican victories all across the Nation."... Ronna
Good for a laugh and nothing more.
The GOP is our low-hanging fruit for now to go after.
Not according to Drudge - he has it at the lowest rated president ever. (TDS).
