Most of us are old enough to remember back to March 2020, less than a year ago. That was a month in which multiple health officials, including U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, advised against wearing masks to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
“It actually does not help, it’s not been proven to be effective in preventing spread of coronavirus amongst the general public,” Adams said of mask-wearing in an interview with Fox News.
Since then, health officials have seemingly changed or updated their recommendations countless times. We’ve heard so many conflicting reports of which face coverings work and which ones don’t.
However, a new suggestion from The New York Times may just be the craziest one that we’ve heard yet.
“As cases of the coronavirus continue to surge on a global scale, some of the nation’s most prominent people have begun to double up on masks — a move that researchers say is increasingly being backed up by data,” Katherine J. Wu of The Times wrote.
That’s right, it’s may no longer be sufficient for you to walk around in a mask at all times. Instead, you should consider walking around with two masks on simultaneously (though Wu acknowledged that “Double-masking isn’t necessary for everyone”), according to our establishment media.
As cases of the coronavirus continue to surge, football coaches, the President-elect and even some science-savvy senators have begun to double up on masks — a move that researchers say is increasingly being backed up by data. https://t.co/eikzwSXVJF

Wu claimed there is research that supports wearing two masks, but that data is not found anywhere in the article. She shared data suggesting that masks are somewhat effective in curbing the spread of the virus, but nothing comparing the effectiveness of...

It escaped from a lab where people wore space suits, had a strictly controlled environment, and massive decontamination effortszz
A paper mask on a filthy subway full of morons is pointless.
I often see people wearing two masks, sometimes with a face shield.
I’ve seen people inside their homes wearing masks. Do they wear them to bed?
They should just stuff a sock in it.
“I’ve seen people inside their homes wearing masks. Do they wear them to bed?”
I have considered wearing one during my morning business. Gets pretty rank in there.
now when i go out i sometimes leave my dentures soaking and just use a mask i love it
My theory is if you can smell a fart through a mask it’s probably not stopping covid molecules.
“...football coaches, the President-elect and even some science-savvy senators have begun to double up on masks...”
Does the NYT realize the mask does nothing to help the wearer from catching Wuhan? Masks might help others from catching the virus from the mask wearer not the other way round.
“science-savvy senators”
What a laughable statement.
I’ve promoted this concept as a way to mollify those who object to others not wearing a mask.
The woke maskers should just wear an additional mask to offset those who don’t wear even one.
Well, if it works for the Trac2, 3 or 4 masks might work even better... /s
“They should just stuff a sock in it!”
This will be the very next trend.
100% Cotton Socks: First wear them on your face, then wear them while you race!
One for the back hole?
I can see two reasons for this recommendation.
1. A toxic combination of idiocy, ignorance and sanctimony.
2. Increase mask sales for some favored parties. Example: Marketing trick for shampoo - Lather, Rinse, Repeat = increased sales.
If you simply hold a pillow over your face and press down hard, you will not get the coronavirus. Or any other virus. Ask Justice Scalia.
Aren’t they bankrupt yet?
Cracker Barrel’s number one sales item this past year: face masks.
Why don’t they go ahead and recommend a plastic bag over the head with a tight rubber band around the neck and skip all the preliminaries?
