2. Virus starts reproducing
3. Immune system activated by the vaccination fights and destroys the virus
4. You live a happy and healthy life

The problem is that probably no one has sufficiently studied the viral load of the infected between steps 2 and 3. Are you chock full of the virus and spreading it like crazy or does the immune system destroy the virus when you are well below the dangerously infectious level?

The vaccine had a reduction in symptomatic cases versus the control group, but I doubt they were measuring the viral load on an hour by hour basis.
