University of Kentucky brass backed athletes’ right to protest on Monday after a local sheriff burned Wildcats gear to express his displeasure with the men’s basketball program.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root lit Kentucky T-shirts on fire alongside County Jailer Jamie Mosley on Sunday in a since-deleted Facebook post that followed up a demand that head coach John Calipari be fired.

Well, that depends on what they are protesting, right? I mean, if they were to speak out against Harris/Biden*, they'd be crushed, wouldn't they?
Good on you Laurel County Sheriff John Root! There are too few of you left in this nation.
The sports world is killing itself. There will be a time in the near future they will to apologize for all they have done or be gone and bankrupt.
Wonder how many people understand that point? Great post.
Sides continue to be chosen.
Crush the opposition or be crushed ... that is where this country is headed.
They have a Constitutional right to protest. However, to be disrespectful of the country and its veterans during the National Anthem is not the right time.
Zackly.
Moar popcorn, please.
Calipari might be in a crack. Good coach, but not Championship wins in a few years, and now he’s falling in with the sorts that the commonwealth doesn’t much care for.
May the University of Kentucky be held the lie forever and may the administration be singled out as racist haters if the team EVER stops kneeling.
Have they renamed Rupp Arena yet. You know that’s coming.
Right!! I lived in KY for 25 years and can guarantee you that the Kentuckians I knew would never support the kneeling BB players! I can imagine they are howling all over the state right new!
Calipari is a fool to do this. I’m 70 years old and, and like most people in Kentucky, have been a lifelong fan of UK basketball. When they invented the word “fan” for someone who supports a particular team, they probably had in mind UK fans, as in “fanatics”.
Sigh. The left has ruined everything in sports: NFL, MLB, NBA (I was never much of a fan anyway.), now NCAA basketball.
Politicizing sports.
These young men are not being taught what sports is supposed to be for and its unifying importance to culture.
Unreal - something so important to the culture of Kentucky they are willing to destroy.
“There will be a time in the near future they will to apologize for all they have done or be gone and bankrupt.”
I think the government will bail them out. It is easy, just buy advertising for taking the vaccine, global warming, etc.
That would be the old way but things will be changing. It won’t be as easy as that anymore because of what is about to take place.
Ratings have to be way down
I think fewer and fewer people care and quite frankly this former super fan didn’t miss the tournament at all
I barely watch anymore including the recap shows I might glance online at the scores but that’s about it
A pox on Uk bb And especially on Calipari and his one and done cast of intellectually and academically affirmative action players
They have a right to protest. We have a right to reject them.
