Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the No. 3 House Republican, announced on Tuesday that she would vote to impeach President Trump, saying there had “never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States” than Mr. Trump’s incitement of a mob that attacked the Capitol last week.
In a stinging statement that drove a fissure through her party, Ms. Cheney dismissed fellow Republicans arguing that the impeachment was rushed, premature or unwarranted. Her words were unequivocal and likely to give cover to two dozen or so other House Republicans looking to break ranks and join an effort that was also said to have the tacit support of Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader.
“Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough,” said Ms. Cheney, the scion of a storied Republican political family. “The president of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the president.”
She added: “The president could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not.”

I don’t know where you are living, but here in the DC/MD/VA viewing area we are seeing hours and hours of attacks from all sides of the Capitol building occurring over a number of hours, smashing in of windows and doors, vandalism inside offices, etc. I am reminded of an experience I had years ago working for a volatile local politician. One day he phoned me early and said the conference and filing room has been broken into and ransacked. “How bad is it,” I asked. “Well, let’s just say the conference room floor looks like the top of your desk,” he responded. “That bad, huh?” I remarked. Politics is so much fun. /s
Reagan and Trump, policy-wise, personality wise, are polar opposites. You can choose which was the better. Reagan also has a basic political core philosophy that was well thought out and developed, consistently applied. OTOH, Nothing really drove Trumpism other than what position Trump himself would take at any given time.
Dick Cheney will be 80 this month. He has had major heart problems. Interesting fact. His daughter Elizabeth was born 9 months and 2 days after the Vietnam draft board made married men WITHOUT children eligible to be drafted. Did that make her feel used? Is that why she is a lesbian? I have not noticed any mention of him in press recently.
