"We don't condone what these companies are doing": North Idaho wireless internet provider to block Facebook & Twitter for customers, if requested
KHQ ^ | 11 Jan 21

Posted on 01/11/2021 11:51:23 AM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

A North Idaho wireless internet provider says they will be making it easier for their customers to block Facebook and Twitter, after they said they've received "non-stop calls" from their customers asking them to do so.

KHQ spoke with YourT1Wifi owner Bret Fink who said the decision to do this was based only on logistics, not political ideology. Fink says many of his customers aren't tech savvy and he is simply trying to do his best to help as many customers as possible in as easy a way as possible. Fink says following Facebook and Twitter's decision to ban President Donald Trump from the sites, he heard from many customers saying the sites propagate misinformation and are wrongly censoring the President. He says many of his customers are concerned that the sites could negatively impact their children and their community. So he's taken steps to block them, which will go into effect Wednesday, January 13th.

Fink says an email that went out over the weekend was confusing to some people. And KHQ heard from some customers who felt that Fink was the one censoring information, by blocking them from receiving Facebook and Twitter. He says a clarifying email went out Monday morning, which you can read in full below:

Customers,

As you know we sent out a email yesterday that was supposed to say if you want to be blocked from Twitter or Facebook please email, text or call us.

This is for the customers that have expressed they want it blocked to make it easier for us to do it for them, if you don’t want to be added to the block list then you don’t have to do anything as you wont be added to that list instead you will continue with no blocks just like always.

But half their customers are not going to like this. It’s not a good business decision in my book. But ya, I like sticking it to these commies using their own tactics.

Can’t one just block themselves from Facebook and Twitter if they never log in to Facebook or Twitter?

Why do these people need help blocking themselves from those apps?

Can you show me where "khq.com" is on the excerpt list?

Or do you simply not know what you're doing?

Not good. I’ve been saying this tech censorship is going to land at the ISP level, and here it is. If this ISP can block certain websites, the AT&T, Verizon and Comcast can block Free Republic, Breitbart, Townhall etc...

This company is doing the same thing that Twitter and the rest of them are doing; censoring. IMHO not a good thing.

People do not realize that big tech (Facebook, etc.) is putting trackers on your computer and not just by going to thier site. Brave browser blocks those trackers.

As of this point in time, the Communists who have destroyed the Vote for all of us, rioted, looted and burned our cities and murdered people just because they support our President Trump, have been on the offensive with absolutely NO discernible response from real America. This FACT turns my stomach!

It’s time to fight for our Republic!

“Can’t one just block themselves from Facebook and Twitter if they never log in to Facebook or Twitter?”

Nope. They still gather telemetry from you when you view images and content linked from Facebook, Twitter, et al.

If you use a webfilter or firewall you can explicitly block them and you can also block the firewall ports that carry the telemetry data. I used to block known IP ranges but they rotate so fast it’s hard to keep up. Easier just to lock down all of the data that goes in and out of your computer.

For a novice I’d recommend using Brave with AdBlock Plus to mitigate the monitoring.

Read the excerpt. ISP is telling customers how each customer can customize his own (customer level) block list.

Not much different from telling a phone owner how that owner can block certain phone numbers.

Blocking at the ISP level means any and all signal data to those companies would be blocked. You may not like it, but FB and Twitter have plugins and APIs all over the web that send data back to them. Blocking by the ISP means they lose out on possible revenue streams, among other things.

Those that have FB will keep using it; those that don’t have accounts, won’t.

Why do these people need help blocking themselves from those apps?

Facebook and Twitter also have apps pre-loaded onto Android and Google phones (and probably iphones?), you can't delete them, so they are tracking you even if you never go to their sites
