Tech mogul Elon Musk -- known as widely for slinging cars into the sun's orbit as he is for advocating against COVID-19 safety measures -- took to Twitter Thursday to slam Facebook over its latest privacy policy updates for its supposedly secure encrypted messaging app WhatsApp. Musk instead recommended users choose encrypted messaging app Signal.
This isn't the first time Musk has publicly sparred with Facebook over privacy concerns. In 2018, he not only had his own personal Facebook page removed, but those of his companies Tesla and SpaceX. His take on the long-fought battle between Signal and WhatsApp isn't off-base, though.
Both of the encrypted messaging apps have been found to have security bugs over the years that have been resolved. For years, WhatsApp has openly collected certain user data to share with parent company Facebook. Its latest policy change just expands that. Signal, on the other hand, has a history of fighting any entity that asks for your data, and adds features to further anonymize you where possible.
Come on, Elon, use some of that cash to create a brand new electronic phone with its own operating system and several no-ban, free speech social apps!
That would be nice.
alternative secure comms is possible in hostile networks... it would just take longer than 2 weeks to deliver.
My initial assessment of Musk was that he was completely nuts. I haven’t entirely changed my mind yet, but I’m seriously reconsidering.
FYI: Signal is a subsidiary of Dorsey Twit.
According to his biography on Wikipedia, “Musk was severely bullied throughout his childhood and was once hospitalized after a group of boys threw him down a flight of stairs.” Looking at what Big Tech is doing, Elon knows bullies when he sees them.
He certainly meets the definition of ‘Mad Genius’. Nice to know SOMEONE with the resources to battle big tech is doing so.
Psychos run the world, FRiend.
Just gotta find the crazies that have varieties of psychosis you are comfortble with.
WHAT???!!!
Same here. His recent decision to vote with his feet and move to TX, may also suggest he’s not thinking like the Left wants him too.

Any other web based streaming/communications platform BigTech doesn't like is on their hit list already.
And these MF'ers wonder why we're pissed?
CW2 is here, whether you all are are ready for it or not.
I’ll settle for a flying car. Still waiting.
The good news: Musk with his financial backing and imagination could hyper drive the efforts to get alternatives.
The bad news: All those new alternatives would somehow need a rechargeable battery from his Giga battery plant. :)

I told a friend that i’ve watched Elon Musk in a few interviews and i’m leaning to liking the guy.
Instead of WhatsApp, there are scores of other systems to use, based outside the USA, and outside the US Tech monopoly
Many countries realized early-on the national security, spying and monopolistic threats of US-based, Google/Facebook controlled apps, so they promoted their own local/regional versions. Some options are
VK - based in Russia. The deep state won’t be able to meddle with that
Viber - based in Cyprus
kaokoatalk - based in Korea
WeChat - based in China
That said, it's nothing like Fakebook or any social media. It's just a messaging app - so I'm not seeing Musk's point.
I always thought he was just a crazy rich avowed socialist but lately he’s been behaving like liberal that got mugged.
Elon is now the single richest most man in the world.

At $185 billion - Amazon’s Bezelbob is distant second
Why haven’t some Special Ops guys gone to Silicon Valley and rounded up Dorsey, Zuckerberg, and all the tech nazis and brought them before military tribunals for sedition against the Constitution? Is no one in the military concerned?
At $185 billion net worth, I wanna be that nuts too.
