Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) introduced legislation Monday to create national reciprocity for concealed carry license holders.

Hudson’s legislation, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (HR38), would treat concealed carry licenses like driver’s licenses, recognizing the license from one state as valid in the other 49. This would allow the licensee to cross state lines with his or her firearm, knowing it was legal for them to be armed for self-defense just as it is legal for them to drive a car in a state other than their state of residence.

Well, thanks for that Richard. Butt, truly sad that legislation needs to be introduced to allow something that isn't supposed to be infringed upon in the first place.

Good policy if implemented correctly.

Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York will never accept it, even if it were to become law.

Wouldn’t that result in a universal registration of handguns even for those states that now have constitutional carry? Never underestimate the evil that can occur from trying to do good.

The correct thing to do is ban gun registrations nationally. Shred any gun ownership record except if you wish to have insurance on them. There should be a database that only contains names of people that have been restricted from owning a firearm by due process. If you are not on the list, get can buy the gun. It’s not the government’s business to tell it’s citizens what they can use to protect themselves, their families and their property.

No, it just means your CCP from Florida would be valid in NYC.

Registration? I have a CCW in NV and no one knows what I might or might not be carrying. It was the same in FL when I lived there. But probably gonna need a CV-19 certification next time I want to buy a firearm. LOL!

Homosexual marriage didn’t require legislation for reciprocity. One couple from Massachusetts moved to a non-accepting state and sued in federal court for recognize official state acts being respected in other states. It should be no different for firearm licensing.

You may lose that with a national concealed carry. The government will be in charge. Which way will they choose to implement the law if passed? Will they choose to benefit the people or the government? Odds are, they will not choose the people.

Good practical idea if he’d done it three and a half years ago. Today, not so much.

San Francisco Police won’t recognize valid carry permits issued in California and I expect they won’t recognize out of state permits either. The SFPD will routinely seize legal carry permits and legal firearms and destroy them. Keep this in mind if you ever visit that cesspool.

Reason #365,967,821 why I won’t visit San Francisco!

Even if you can legally carry, it makes no difference in those places. They’ll treat you just like Kyle Rittenhouse regardless of the legal status of the gun you used.

Hudson’s legislation, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (HR38), would treat concealed carry licenses like driver’s licenses, recognizing the license from one state as valid in the other 49.

The problem being that driver's licenses are accepted from state to state because the states choose to recognize them and not due to any federal legislation. It should be the same for CCW.
