A new bill in the New York State Assembly seeks to give one of the nation’s worst governors, Andrew Cuomo, even more power. It is currently sitting in committee, and hopefully, New Yorkers will see it die there. Assembly Bill A416 is scheduled for the 2021-22 legislative session. It amends the public health law to give the governor additional powers after they declare a state of health emergency due to an epidemic. I guess that means now.
The additions to the law allow the governor, after consulting with the health commissioner, to order the removal or detention of groups or individuals deemed to be a suspected or actual case, contact, or carrier of a contagious disease that, in the governor’s opinion, poses a significant threat to public health. The governor or his delegees in the state’s public health apparatus may order the removal or detention. They only need to identify individuals and groups by a reasonably specific description.
Individuals could be detained until the health department determines they are no longer contagious or not infected. The good news is you can only be detained for three business days before having an opportunity to be heard. In other words, the Assembly is about to make it easier to detain someone suspected of having COVID-19 than someone who is having an obvious mental health crisis.
The good news is that the bill requires an individual’s medical needs and condition to be assessed regularly and they must be detained in a manner that includes isolation and infection control procedures. So that you know, prisons fit that bill. Yet New York has released thousands of inmates under the pretext of COVID-19. So detaining a few contrary citizens makes complete sense in this environment. Nothing to see here, right?

Cuomo should be under indictment right now for criminally negligent homicides for his COVID-19 response; not up for more authority to do anything.
First he sentences older people to die by exposure to contagious Covid victims in nursing homes.
Then he writes a book patting himself on the back as a Covid hero and expert.
When I walked past his bestselling book in the store I had to keep from barfing. B. Hussein’s phony memoir didn’t help.
As I said before, welcome to the fourth Reich.
Governor Cuomo is able to do whatever he wants so he does not need this bill.
The only people who are buying his book are teachers and public sector unions who are giving them away to members by the truckload. No one is actually reading it, except a few activists so they can give it 4 undeserved stars on Amazon.
Birds of a feather...
Your post asks a vexing question (to me one of the most important questions of 2020-—but does not answer it—merely provides the horrifying statistics. I would like anyone reading this to speculate on what the possibly “ulterior motives” might have been and who was pulling their strings, because there had to be an end-game for this homicidal move that they all did in unison and apparently in concert with one another. I can think of ONE specific rationale, which upon examination , could be evaluated as a total farce-—hollow, empty and self-serving. Enough by itself to bring all of them up on charges.
Giving this puke a knife to kill some more
For example: Orthodox Jews.
Killing off the elderly as a short-term “final solution” to the Medicare and Social Security “crisis”?
Absolutely right though. Each of them should be facing indictment for criminally negligent homicides. I haven’t heard of any Republican governors with such a policy, but if there are any, they should face those consequences as well. We need these people held accountable for their actions that directly resulted in tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Even if they did nothing, I would just say they had bad policy. But forcing nursing homes to accept known infected patients? That’s criminal.
Here come the gulags and re education camps
New York is lost, I just hope there are some liberals left to buy my house when I move to Florida.
King George III had his Parliament.
King Andrew has his legislature.
Unfortunately for both states STILL can’t print money, and NYS will soon be losing another 2 seats in the chamber with the power of the purse.
Unless they have Dominion doing the census...
And there go the prisons.
Cuomo is closing three.
