Louisiana Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, who died while battling COVID-19, suffered a heart attack following a procedure, a hospital official said.
The 41-year-old was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport when he died Tuesday, the Monroe News-Star reported.
LSU Health Shreveport Chancellor G.E. Ghali confirmed Letlow underwent an operation related to the virus and later went into cardiac arrest.
“It’s devastating to our entire team,” Ghali told the paper, adding that he “had no underlying conditions.”
The Republican had first announced that he tested positive for the virus Dec. 18 and said he was quarantining at his Richland Parish home.
But his health began to deteriorate and on Dec. 19, he was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center, and then eventually transferred to Ochsner LSU Health.
Letlow is survived by his wife, Julia Barnhill Letlow, in addition to his two children, 3-year-old Jeremiah and 11-month-old Jacqueline, the paper reported.
“The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time,” Letlow’s spokesman Andrew Bautsch said in a statement to the Monroe News-Star.
Letlow was set to be sworn in to Congress on Sunday after he won the Pelican State’s 5th District seat in a Dec. 5 runoff race.

I firmly believe ventilators are the culprit in killing some of these people. I have a colleague —granted he had been a smoker, but had quit and he had some heart issues—but when he became ill, they whisked him into the hospital where he was stuck on a ventilator for 2 weeks and ended up dead. Many may be in a weakened condition and the ventilator over stresses their lungs.
I feel the rush to ventilators is very morbid.
Are the 111% of expect deaths this year not COVID related? If we didn't have COVID would we have had 111% of deaths: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm The numbers are provisional (incomplete). The actual tally for 2020 will be more like 14% once all the deaths have been submitted to the health statistics center.
That would violate the constitution. Someone here could read it
What would make you think that?
Oh I get it you believe the scamdemic.
Do you believe in Unicorns and Keebler elves?
The Drs on the texags site try to keep people off ventilators as long as possible. Meds, proning...whatever it takes
The IU health controversy involves a Dr who died while on a ventilator at another facility.
“I wonder if he was given invermectin.. ?”
Why should he? That drug only works in India and Latin America - not in the US.
Gee, I wasn’t aware COVID caused heart attacks. Good grief.
it did killed him, indirectly.
if he never got covid, he would still be alive.
No underlying medical conditions.

Do you have a link to his medical files that prove that?
Hi.
“underwent an operation related to the virus”
That caught my attention too. Intubation is considered an an “operation?”
Other than that, you don’t operate on a virus.
5.56mm
You put people on ecmo. You do cardiac catheterizations. It may have been one of any number of procedures
In what way was that operation related to the virus? Hm?
Also....I hope the family has an independent forensic pathologist do the autopsy.
Congressional vacancies are filled by special election and not by appointing a replacement
I heard they were very distant cousins. Not that it matters.
They have not been rushing to ventilators in a long time.
My BIL, a retired surgeon told us to not let them put us on a ventilator if we got the virus. Said it was a death sentence.
I read that survival rate on a ventilator is about 20%.
“A Republican representative will be replaced by a Democrat.”
Will have to be another election. Letlow never took office.
No. Edwards is a Democrat but he only appoints vacancies to the Senate. House vacancies are filled by a special election. A Republican will win that election
