Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduces competing bill for $2K stimulus checks. It would also repeal Section 230 and set up commission to study voter fraud.
How about the section 230 repeal and voter fraud commission without the taxpayer giveaway?
What would be the effect of repealing section 230 on this site, FreeRepublic.com?
In my opinion, it could mean the end of the site as we know it. Section 230 is what allows people like Jim Robinson to operate web sites like this without being personally liable for other people's content. Take away section 230, and Free Republic will be open to "community standards" lawsuits from liberal nannies across the country.
I understand people here want to support the president, but this is just plain wrong. Section 230 is the cornerstone of open and free political discourse on the internet in the United States. It's what allows sites like Free Republic, Parler, Bitchute, etc. to exist as conservative alternatives to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the like.
Free Republic is one of the most important political websites in the country. In my opinion, repealing section 230 threatens it's very existence.
“There is no way to vote on and reconcile this bill with what the house passed before the end of this senate, and the POS mcconnell knows it. This is just more of the same dog and pony show they have been showing us for over 4 years.”
Absolutely, more rope a dope. He thinks we’re stupid. We are for voting for these rino scum. Always screwing the middle class now for decades with their bipartisan pals.
Americans can now expect their electricity bills to skyrocket. Check out what else made it’s way into the relief bill. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/12/28/report-spending-bill-stuffed-with-game-changer-climate-change-provisions-funding/
A commission to study...
About the most useless thing since Lindsey Graham.
I wish he could have included removal of the pork, too, although it would be a fairly meaningless gesture at this point because the House would never pass such a bill. The Senate should not have passed the pork bill in the first place, and Trump certainly should have taken advantage of his freedom of action as a lame duck and vetoed it. But the pork ship has sailed, with the acquiescence of the President and all but a few dozen Representatives and a handful of Senators.
Pork in itself is not the enemy.
Thanks. As has been astutely observed, it’s a poison pill.
So obviously Mitch has his own agenda.
I wonder about that.
Has Jim ever spoken to his reliance on 230 to operate this site?
I don’t expect the repeal of 230 to go through, but I would like to see it amended.
I should hope not - pork is our friend. So tasty...
And welcome to Free Republic.
It will surely be banned.
Surely bacon will not be banned!
Don’t call me shirley and for the love of God don’t shoot the messenger. Lol
The key to this may be the defense bill. Everyone wants to override that veto, and if Mitch allows the veto override to be held up great things may happen on the other issues.
Will find out tomorrow, not holding my breath LOL!
Mitch has done well for Senate Rs, hasn’t much to offer Senate Dems though.
At least not with the media being the Dem propaganda arm that it is.
Did he cut out the pork?
“As has been astutely observed [by the media], it’s a poison pill.”
LOL!
The media rules!
the media will say the Dems are righteous to deny Americans checks so as to protect their Party’s tech donors and their Party’s crooked elections.
And indeed many will believe.
Especially the ones that believe the media’s sponsors ads
Believe one lie, believe any other...
You are quite correct. What, exactly, is the damn point of this? Reconciliation is impossible and the Rats would dig in and never relent. McConnell is placating Trump supporters before the final shiv is shoved home. He’ll be OK as minority leader of a Rat senate, but the rest of us are screwed.
You want your own money back? Less handling fees?
No thanks.
CNBC, says the. $600 checks are on the way...not sure what the truth is...
?? What turned him around?
