Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to set up a stand-alone vote on increasing the amount of recently passed stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000.
Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) both tried to get consent for the Senate to bring up legislation that passed the House in a 273-134 vote on Monday.
The GOP leader did not directly address why he objected, but under the Senate's rules any one senator can block efforts to set up votes or pass bills.

Trump made a deal with them he signed it on the condition that they take up a bunch of stuff and change it. Seems to me that McConnell is the only one that’s honoring that.
this was a can of worms that should have never been opened.
the covid relief package isn’t the solution, the solution is to end the lockdown. getting into a $600/$2000 p*ssing contest with the democrats was a mistake.
This piece of largess could be cut down to about 20 pages max. But that wouldn’t be good for the pork-O-rama that’s going on. We already know that this will be another case of nanzi, like lucy, yanking the football just as the kicker winds up for the win.
I agree
I doubt he’ll address any of them. He’s shown no appetite for working with President Trump on anything but judicial appointments. Everything else he’s either stalled or stonewalled President Trump’s entire agenda. I think this will be no different. There will be no new bill. Any bill introduced will see McConnell shooting it down immediately.
He’s waiting for his buddy Sloe Biden to take office so they can work across the aisle with each other and hold hands together. Just a bunch of Washington insiders playing ball while the rest of us sit around and suffer. Really nothing new.

McConnell on $2k direct payments, Section 230 and elections: This week the Senate will begin a process to bring these three priorities into focus.”
Sounds like Mitch is going to combine the bill with something Trump wants.
Flummoxed at what can be done about elections at this point. Too late or too early for everything I can think of.

Otherwise, he’s stalling until Sloe Biden gets sworn in.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ding a ding a ding a!
We have a thread winnah!
Cut out those pork payments to foreign countries and then pass the 2 grand.
How simple is that?
Mitch is playing the lose Georgia game. Say goodbye to the Senate.Dumber than dirt when he could have had a Georgia win. That's a RINO fer ya!
I don’t trust Mitch as far as I can throw him.
Senate RINO’s are same and numerous.
Only 11 reps voted with trump on both NDAA and stimulus checks
Kentucky Rep. James Comer
Florida Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart
Texas Rep. Michael Burgess
Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins
New York Rep. Chris Jacobs
West Virginia Rep. David McKinley
Indiana Rep. Greg Pence
New York Rep. Tom Reed
Missouri Rep. Jason Smith
New York Rep. Lee Zeldin
New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew

Thanks for clarifying - - Trump had lots of problems with the bill - NOT just the $600 part...
Look, Mitch knows that Trump pulled him through in that Senate race and he does not want to lose his position. Career politician that he is, he definitely wants to keep that.
Do you i early think he will have that chance again if the dems get and keep ultimate power? Don’t like Everythjng he does, but Mitch DID get those judges confirmed at a record rate. So yes, I believe he will take those issues up.
Everyone wants a magical drama filled nano second where in the blink of an eye, all the bad is wiped away.
Things have been going on behind the scenes we are not privy to ( nor apparently, is the media).
There are two bills involved...The one that will fund the government AND the Covid bill.
oh but all these doreign countries get thyeir money and illegals get 1800 ..and the congress and senate get a 60 000 vraise .....civil fn war .............drag him out of the senate and hang him iu the courtyard....hes a piece of scum. ...dont pay ur tAXES.....
LOL! Funny, but sadly, not at all far from the truth.
Maybe you should revisit the impeachment fiasco...and you’d find out the McConnell played a strategic role....and also many other budgets..
it was the defense bill that passed....this bill is different... a combination of an omibus bill and a covid relief bill....most of the “relief” goes to other countries, just like all those other country’s taxpayers send us money......NOT!
You have no idea what has been going on for almost 4 years. You’ve been at FR since when?? May??
Go take a xanax
What a scummy headline all the articles on this have.
The truth is Schumer moved to pass the bill by unanimous consent (meaning really no vote), and McConnell wants a recorded vote. But no! We need to say he is BLOCKING MONEY TO ‘MERICANS!!!!
I have zero trust Mitch McConnell gives a damn about you, me, President Trump, or anyone else. He’s an ancient Washington insider. They care about themselves.
You do know McConnell and the rest all have regular social gatherings with their “sworn enemies”, right? They have dinner together with each other’s families. They go to each other’s birthday parties. They go on vacations together. Democrat, Republican; it’s all the same to them. They’re all pals. Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer, Graham, Biden, Harris; they’re thick as thieves. They dance on our throats and throw parties with our hard-earned money.
