President-elect Joe Biden said Republicans will have "much more room to run and cooperate" after President Donald Trump leaves the White House. In an interview with CBS 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert, Biden said he doesn't blame Republicans who have been slow to congratulate his win and believes Trump's hold over the party will become less of a barrier to cooperation.
"I think I can work with Republican leadership in the House and the Senate, I think we can get things done, and I think once this president is no longer in office, I think you're going to see his impact on the body politic fade, and a lot of these Republicans are going to feel they have much more room to run and cooperate," Biden said.
"I know everybody says, well, they should just step up. How can I say this? A number of them sent messages to me four weeks ago, give me time, Joe, give me some time. That's fine by me. That's fine by me. We won. We won Georgia three times. No, but all kidding aside, look, it's a tough spot," he said.
