“The Civil War was a nightmare, but not as bad as it would have been if we had just acquiesced.“ CL

Do tell: Was the confederacy trying to take over the USA? Here I was thinking the war was to prevent secession, or “protect the Union.”

Thanks in advance.

Lincoln faces similar issues. He barred legislatures from meeting. (Maryland)

No, he arrested about 1/3 of the Legislators that were suspected of supporting secession.

Not sure what the relevance is to the topic. Lincoln was reacting to a state legislature possibly discussing and voting on secession. The President has no authority to bar Congress from meeting.

If the south had won, North America would be like Europe (or South America). Lots of little countries. And Mexico would probable control a lot more of the west coast. And then there is how that would have played into 20th century geopolitics. Imagine a WW I where the “north” sided with Germany and the “south” sided with France and England. Imagine a North American front.

Only if the plan for martial law involves the arrest, charging, trial conviction, and sentencing of the governor, mayor, state attorney general, county/city DA, police chief, and/or election officials responsible for the lawlessness, violence, election corruption, and treason within that state or city.

You have martial law which does away with civilian courts, Congress, and constitutional rights. So why bother with the 'charge' and the 'trial conviction' part and go straight from arrest to sentencing?

He isn’t going to declare martial law per se. He will use a few “loop holes” to allow spec ops to round up traitors. It will be more of a “police action” than martial law.

Can't round up anyone you deem to be a traitor and tossing them in prison without Martial Law. The Constitution would keep getting in the way.

My view is that Trump will do no such thing.

I don't think so, either. He is going to drag the fraud evidence out like a stinking whale carcass on the D.C. beach and just let it sit there. Neither party will be able to bury it or move it. It will rot in place in full view of the nation.

In case you missed, there's people who are advocating that. Supposed constitutionalists at one time. Not any more.

Did the legislature of Maryland meet? (No)

What was the crime they were charged with when they were ‘arrested’? (Impure future thoughts and potential objectionable voting about the Union?)

Have a nice day.

My point is US Presidents have taken drastic and potentially objectionable actions in extreme times.

Believe me I haven't missed it. I find it a bit baffling that so many people are cheering on a police state and so few people try to drag things back to reality as you are attempting to do.

Agreed. In this climate, if a President took actions such as "suspending" elections, or "ordering" new elections, "suspending" the 20th Amendment, etc. I think it's safe to say that Impeachment and Trial of the President would take place in short order.

I am grateful that President Trump will hold true to the US Constitution. He is not a tyrant, despite those who want him to act like one.

Btw- Lincoln had no authority to arrest 1/3 of the Maryland legislators, based on what they were thinking.

Lincoln faced an armed rebellion and the members of the Maryland legislature were attempting to bring Maryland into that rebellion. You want Trump to declare martial law, and since he isn't facing a rebellion or insurrection, social unrest, or unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages. Give Lincoln some slack since he was facing all of them.

How in the heck do you think you know what I want? I will speak for myself.

I favor the SCOTUS to step in and sort out the most constitutional path to a lawful and peaceful transfer of power for our republic, recognizing that the USA in in unprecedented territory.

Other options are far inferior to that.

Because the transcripts of the trials needs to be taught to school children so that when they become adults, they know what to do with the traitorous politicians, media, and Deepstaters they will, no doubt, encounter.

The victors write the history while the losers write the myths. History will be whatever those in power say, not what transcripts say.
