Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf has described 2020 as a "terrible" year and says the national coronavirus strategy has failed. ...
"I think we have failed. We have a large number who have died and that is terrible," the king says in the programme.
"The people of Sweden have suffered tremendously in difficult conditions. One thinks of all the family members who have happened to be unable to say goodbye to their deceased family members. I think it is a tough and traumatic experience not to be able to say a warm goodbye."
When asked if he was afraid of being infected with Covid-19, the king - who is 74 - said: "Lately, it has felt more obvious, it has crept closer and closer. That's not what you want."
Instead of relying on legal sanctions, Sweden appeals to citizens' sense of responsibility and civic duty, and issues only recommendations. There are no sanctions if they are ignored.
Sweden has never imposed a nationwide lockdown or the wearing of masks, and bars and restaurants have remained open.
However, earlier this week, schools across the Stockholm region were asked to switch to distance learning for 13 to 15-year-olds for the first time as soon as possible. The measure was announced in response to rising Covid-19 cases.
This came a week after a nationwide decision on 7 December to switch to remote learning for those over 16.

Sweden - population 10 million -- 7,893 deaths, 779 deaths/million Norway - population 5 million - 402 deaths, 74 deaths/million Denmark - population 5 million - 992 deaths, 171 deaths/million
Sweden, which avoided a lockdown during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, saw its economy shrink 8.6%
Denmark's economy shrank by 4.5 % and Norway's by 3.5%
I think it's still too early to determine whether the Swedish approach or the Norway-Denmark approach was better. We need to compare the numbers again in 2022, in terms of total deaths, deaths due to covid-2, economic impact etc.
The idiocy & lies in our Western leadership is amazing. One would think that since it has been around for about a year now, it is too late for any more shutdowns.
We need more COVID.
It is responsible for creating a 2% flu rate and a decent reduction of car accidents and deaths. It’s even stopped many cancers.
We’ve never had such a benefit from disease as with COVID.
King Carl XVI Gustaf thinks their national policy was a failure? Maybe he should’ve tried the North Korean approach.
“You got COVID?”
BANG!
“Not anymore.”
King Carl XVI Gustaf, MD? Can he simply declare himself an X-spurt on the subject? It’s good to be the king. Right ‘coral’? (Some of you will get that LOL!)
Need to check whether the fearmongers are introducing false causation into the numbers, as they are trying to do their best to do here.
Your stats above are fascinating. I would love to see figures from states like California and New York and see how they stack up against these European countries. I would be very surprised, shocked even, if California did not suffer far worse economic downturns because of their totalitarian and unconstitutional Covid policies that shut businesses and forced people into poverty.
He’s king. What didn’t he just wave his hand and make it go away?
The countries that did lock-downs may have just postponed their deaths till later, so it’s probably not valid to compare Sweden’s deaths/per X to other lock-down countries.
Maybe it’s an ingredient found in lutefisk?
In our state if you are required to get a coronavirus test because you want antibiotics for a bladder infection and your CV test comes back positive... you are counted as a case. When you demand another test because you have NO symptoms, you are counted as another case. The next day the doctor realizes that all the tests from all of his patients sent to the lab that he sent your swabs to have been coming back positive. He calls you and suggests that you take another test which he sends to a different lab... of course it comes back negative. But you are told you still need to stay quarantined. In our state you are still considered two new “cases”, and if you die from any cause in the next three months you will be counted as a coronavirus death by CDC guidelines because of the false positive test results. If this sounds like a situation that I have personal knowledge of... it is. This nonsense just keeps getting worse. It is a travesty...
The statistics being used to paint Sweden with a black brush for not complying with this BS are no less slanted and yes completely distorted and false. The BBC, the source of this story is as bad or worse than any MSM source in this country.

States are more difficult. While Norway and Sweden could put border checks, it would be near impossible for a USA state to do so. We can’t compare
How about NJ? Population 8.9 million. Cases 426,000, deaths 18,139 which is the highest per capita of any large political entity in the world. Yet where I live in NJ it is mild. Don’t know anyone who died from it.
We won’t know what happened until it’s all over and the numbers can be compared on the same basis; subtracting normal death rates. With this pandemic old geezers like me are hit hard and a substantial number would have died anyway.
King? I didn’t vote for him.
But he built a beautiful Mauser rifle. I got one.
Part of this story...outside of Stockholm and the next two big urbanized zones...the rest of the country has marginally been affected by infections or deaths. Less traffic, less population, all leads to a lower infection rate.
21,000 deaths so far in California. State population is 39.5 million people.
You don’t vote for kings!
Well, how’d you become king then?
Hey you dumb ass King. Sweden will suffer for ever thanks to your nation’s invitation to the violent Muslim conquerors. Who would have ever thought they would be hearing about grenade attacks between Muslim gangs in Sweden? How many of your wome, and men, been raped by the Muslim invaders you invited in to your kingdom! What clown.
They did vote for him, indirectly at least.
On 21 August 1810, the Riksdag (the then parliament of Sweden) elected Jean Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, the current Kings great-great-great-great grandfather, and a Marshal of France, as heir presumptive to the Swedish throne. The then King (who had no heir) then adopted him.

20,000/40 million=500 deaths per million. US total is approaching 1,000 deaths per million, so California’s rate is half the US average. New Jersey is over 2,000 deaths per million; double the US rate and 4X California’s.
