On Tuesday, Stern inked a new five-year deal with Sirius reportedly worth upwards of $100 million a year. One of radio’s biggest stars for decades, his 2020 net worth is estimated at more than half a billion dollars.
Yet if past is prologue, former staffers say rank-and-file employees won’t see their share of the spoils — and that, besides being a penny-pincher, Stern was often a terror to work with.
“Worse than Ellen [DeGeneres],” one industry insider told The Post.
“The hallway had to be cleared out before he walks down,” said Melendez, whose interviews with celebrities like Gennifer Flowers and the Dalai Lama briefly made him a household name.
Another comedian told The Post that, when he arrived at the studio, staffers told him “not to look” at the boss.
Stern’s real-estate portfolio, shared with his animal-activist wife, Beth Ostrosky Stern, also includes an eight-bedroom mansion that sits on a $20 million piece of property in Southampton; and the 53rd and 54th floors of the Millennium Tower — one of the priciest buildings in Manhattan. The three properties are worth an estimated $90 million
Insiders say the money situation might sting less if Stern treated them better. Comic Lange, who worked with Stern from 2001 to 2009, said his old boss still carries baggage from his early radio days.

I can't imagine many people actually paying for this service...so the question is how many people are listening to Stern?
No one listens, he “works” two days a week and makes 100 million a year. Smells like money laundering.
He doesn’t get a fraction of what guys like Limbaugh and Hannity get on regular radio but he has a good publicist who gets stories about his celebrity interviews into the NY tabloids. Sirius considers him a loss leader at this point.

even worse than Sheila Jackson Lee?
I listened to this guy once or twice years ago, and I was not impressed. It sounded like he was playing to the high school crowd. Real juvenile stuff.
Another comedian told The Post that, when he arrived at the studio, staffers told him “not to look” at the boss.
SOUNDS LIKE HILLARY.
I believe Rush makes “only” $25 million a year.
The service came free for the first 6 months when I purchased the vehicle. I do not listen to Stern but I do like to listen to the Sinatra channel - 71 - and Soul Town - 49. Soul Town was good because I heard old songs I have not heard for 40+ years. However, just like regular radio, with all the different songs by Sinatra and those like him, and with all the different soul tunes, you hear the same rotation.
You’re missing out. I have Sirius XM and listen to the Patriot Channel.
gutter radio for the lowest common denominator crowd
I pay $60 a year for Sirius, but that doesn’t include Stern, who I have no interest in. I have it for classical music and Sinatra.
Crowder appears to be so afraid that his co-hosts will be funnier that him that he starts talking over them as soon as they get more than two or three syllables out of their mouths.
So annoying.
This has been true for years. Several people on the show had to do side jobs while the show was #1.
So Crowder is almost as annoying as Hannity?
Last notable thing I heard from Stern was his live coverage during 9-11.
While every other channel was being politically correct and not wanting to guess at anything, Stern was being real.
I remember him saying “You know that second building is coming down”.
However over all I end up feeling Stern is a nasty opportunist and phoney.
Nope, this guy has worked for every penny of his success. He may only be on the air an hour or two but it takes many many hours to prepare for each show and to work out a show that people want to tune in everyday.
Talk radio is far more competitive than most careers will ever approach. You have to be the best of the best to even begin to make any money at all. Then you have to get into a major market.
No matter who they are in talk radio if they are a household name you can take it to the bank that person has made sacrifices and worked harder than most people can ever imagine.
Something happened to him after 9/11. He turned on Dubya after being all pro-war (I think there was some FCC thing...I don't know...or maybe Opie and Anthony and other jocks were just bettter and he decided to go full lib) and moved from his libertarian left mindset to Dem. When he rejected Trump in 2016 I knew he was gone.
Like I said I don't listen anymore. People tell me Stern has become a great interviewer. Well...I just listened to a 3 min snippet of Howard interviewing Robert Plant and it was awful. I mean...Plant was great, but Stern kept trying to ask probing questions suggesting that he knew the REAL Plant, and he just came off as stupid.
He is a wealthy man, but he's no longer relevant. That's gotta be killing him.
