There's no clear pattern to several shootings in St. Petersburg in the last month, including Wednesday night's killing by police of a man wanted in connection to a murder.
But one thing is clear: the economic downturn caused by the pandemic is hitting minorities hard.
The Rev. Kenny Irby is pastor of the Historic Bethel AME Church and is St. Petersburg's Community Intervention Director, focusing on the city's young African American residents. The violence, he says, may be provoked by systemic racism experienced by the Black community.

Once again, a looming threat of violence because the police shot and killed a black man. Never mind that he shot at them first, wounding one officer.
This has become an utterly idiotic cliche, both by those who say it, and the low IQ “journalists” who repeat it.
But they have to say it, just like they have to call it “gun violence”, because apparently we can’t expect people to be responsible for their actions.
White leftists want nothing more than TOTAL CONTROL over the lives of every American. Keeping Black people poor and dependent on government and the Democrat Party is always one of their stated goals!
Well, yes and no. There is systemic racism, it is the liberal education system deliberately brainwashing minorities that whitey is out to get him/her and keep him/her down. When you believe only the worst of others, true or false, you will see it. Another descriptive would be mass hysteria like the Salem witch hunts. The main point is that it was deliberately created to destroy our society, person, by bitter, broken person. We must take back our education system right after we get our government back and teach the truth for a change.
Yeah because the minorities own all the small businesses going
out of business.
This hurts everyone.
People’s life savings and livelihoods are behind destroyed.
It’s war on the middle-class, pure and simple.
Isn’t it just like them to point to the poor minorities as
if they are the worst off.
I feel much sorrier for the folks who have a small multi-
generation business, that they have been using savings to
keep going trying to hold out. And now they are losing
the business, the savings, and their homes.
That makes them poor. Who knew?
I did read the article, but the first sentences are enough to describe the problem.
According to the article, police shot a man. True enough. Left unwritten is that the man was firing a gun in public in a shootout with police, and the man hit an officer.
Then the article claims that the economic downturn is caused by the pandemic. Not really true. The economic downturn is caused by the political and cultural reaction to the pandemic. The pandemic itself is not killing or debilitating enough people to harm the economy.
Further down in the article, there are claims that systemic racism causes crime (called “gun violence” here), poverty, and cultural malaise. The reporter just repeats the mantra. The minister quoted is probably saying the same thing in the pulpit.
Every step along the way, someone is stating a half-truth or an outright lie.
Leftist S-hole neighborhood in a Leftist S-hole city, in a Leftist S-hole county. Let it burn.
Yet another political pastor.
Of course what you both say is true.
The country has gone mad.
I care about the folks at FR and so I ask that everyone keep an eye on how ALL THIS GARBAGE, day after day, night after night, is affecting them.
Monsters everywhere. Much more scary ones than our childhood fears.
It has knocked me down a few times...though I am prone to depression...but the good people here pick me back up.
The majority are stronger than I am here mentally and I am glad.
But PLEASE don’t let it affect your holidays or your moods or health.
Like I said, most of you are too strong for that.
But this is like my second family.
Hell I talk to you people more than I talk to family :)
So just in case anyone ever feels like all of this is sneaking up on them too much, please catch it, take a break and do something you love.
Those who know me konw /I don’t post corny posts :)
But you all mean a great deal to me and I want everyone to stay angry...but put it aside often enough to stay sane.
I’m sure this is projection..because it gets to me sometimes.
But humor me and be diligent that our evil enemies never drag you down with them, not even a little.
It’s what they want.

All these far leftists complaining about crime going up are simply not getting the lessons of the past. If you tell cops not to arrest criminals, criminals will use this respite to do what they do best. Social norms are just that - norms backed up, in some cases, with the force of law. The moment the law decides to back off, the anti-social among us will take the opportunity to engage in crime sprees for profit or just for recreation.

Way I see it brother... no one can ruin your (generic you) day or your mood but you.
No one has any power over them except that which YOU allow them, and I choose not to give anyone that power.
Sure... it’s a crazy time. But There’s been worse times. There’ll BE worse times too. That is the way of things.
But I always remember that those critters on the other side are people too - they have fears, they have pressure points and trigger points and leverage points, and they can be made to be as miserable as we decide to make them be, at any time and place of our choosing.
They haven’t won, and they won’t win, because people like us are still able to say “No F***ing way” and back it up with lethal Constitutional force if necessary.
The only way we lose if we allow ourselves to lose. And that’s NOT an option.
And to paraphrase one of THE greatest dialog lines ever spoken - “I once told, Von Ryan... if even ONE of us makes it out, it’s a victory.”
Stand tall buddy. And enjoy every day you breathe and every minute God gives you. Every single loved one we’ve ever lost would want it that way for each of us.
