Mandatory reporting rules include number of amplification cycles of test
The Florida Department of Health is requiring that all labs in the state report the critical “cycle threshold” level of every COVID-19 test they perform.
In a press release this week, the department said that, regarding COVID-19 tests, “cycle threshold (CT) values and their reference ranges, as applicable, must be reported by laboratories to FDOH via electronic laboratory reporting or by fax immediately.”
“Cycle thresholds” are the level at which widely used polymerase chain reaction test can detect a sample of the COVID-19 virus. The higher the number of cycles, the lower the amount of viral load in the sample; the lower the cycles, the more prevalent the virus was in the original sample.
Numerous epidemiological experts have argued that cycle thresholds are an important metric by which patients and the public can make an informed decision about how infectious and/or sick an individual with a positive COVID-19 test might be. Health departments across the country are failing to collect that data, however

Finally.....a smart state doing what is RIGHT, on these hyped up testing procedures.
Even The FRAUDci said NOT to spin/cycle these past 30 cycles....that results past that cannot be trusted.
CDC recommends 35+....iow....they spin out until they defect traces of ANY COVID virus.

It’s about time. The fact that most states are not even recording the number of cycles that the PCR test is being run through just shows they are trying to pull one over on the people. They are definitely do not want the public to be informed enough so that each person can make a truly informed decision about whether they want to stay home or go out etc.

More meaningful would be which target was positive.. the non covid specific marker similar to other coronoviruses or the specific marker. Forst time in lab history that a molecular test is positive with only a single marker. To mitigate false positives the standard was a minimum of two.
And that my friend is why Governor DeSantis must be President someday.
The COVID-19 tests are currently no more accurate than a coin toss, 50/50. They are just as likely to give a false positive or false negative than a true value.
To those in the know:
Is this same test regularly used for other viruses when someone is hospitalized for a suspected respiratory virus and it is not known which one it is?
How many cycles are used when testing for other viruses?
I suppose it would be possible to send two samples from the same patient for COVID testing and amplify one x times and the other y times.
I wonder how often a patient tests positive— clearly and unarguably positive— for some other virus because a tried and true testing method was used for it and also tested positive for COVID because x cycles were used when testing for COVID it and not y cycles.
But we will never know how often this occurs.

This is EXCELLENT. Desantis is on the ball, best Gov in the country. I can’t wait til they announce that tests with a cycle count over the determined limit (30?) are considered negative and our misnamed “cases” suddenly drop by 50-80%.
