I learned from Don Boudreaux this morning that Walter Williams died either this morning or last night. For those of you who don’t know, he was a long-time economics professor at George Mason University.
I’ll have more to say later but I want to give one appreciation.
Walter liked smoking and he also hated the TSA. Some years ago, the combination of no-smoking regs on planes and intrusive groping by the TSA caused him to vow never to fly by commercial airline again. When he received offers to give speeches that were far enough away that driving was infeasible, he negotiated for a private airplane to take him there.
Walter Williams was amazing and a true scholar in support of liberty.

RIP, enjoyed listening and reading his work.
But if I remember correctly he was an unapologetic smoker which may have contributed to his passing. That said, he lived how he wanted so good for him.
RIP these Patriots. ❤🙏❤
What a great man, he will be missed, may he RIP.
God Bless Walter Williams. He was a great man, and he’ll be missed.
“2020 is making a case for it’s inclusion on the list of Worst Years Ever.”
Ain’t that the truth. I never thought the personally worst year of 2009 would be topped, but 2020 is a doozy.
I loved hearing this man when he took over for Rush!
He had a great story around how he was “such a thoughtful husband” when he bought his wife a new vacuum or such for her birthday. He enjoyed the humor such statements brought up and he gently defended it, along with his wife being happy he thought and did such a thing.
She passed on a few years back.
I am sure he longed for her presence. I hope he is to be with her in Heaven.
This is another sad loss.
Has this been confirmed? I cannot find any report of his death other that the FR links to obscure sources. According to Wikipedia and George Mason University, he is still alive and doing we he does best — teach, write, and lecture.
Noooooooooooooooo! Darth Vader.
Deepest and most respectful condolences to his family & friends. (damnit)
Dr Williams was the commencement speaker at my son’s graduation from Grove City College in 2012. An American treasure.

Wiki is showing his passing.

But you are correct, there is very little reporting on this.
So wise and so funny .
Farewell to a great American
One of the great minds of the conservative movement. God be with his family and friends.
I wonder if his family and students know how much Walter Williams was treasured outside of academia?
Walter was one of the great Americans of his generation, on a par with Thomas Sowell, in that both, with great intellectual integrity, overcame the pull the Leftists exercised against black Americans.
Here’s an episode of Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser, from Nov 1991, featuring Dr Walter Williams as special guest:

Well, maybe he wasn’t white. But at least according to Biden, he ain’t black.
RIP, Walter. What a wonderful man and a great intellect. He will be missed.
Damn. I always enjoyed him hosting on Rush, and loved his stories about his late, beloved wife (that he told with so much humor.)
His loss is such an incredible loss, not just to “the black community (the vast majority never knew of him) but to the USA. He was an incredible speaker.
Mark
How sad for us. He was one of the best. Now he will be able to give Mrs. Williams his ever thoughtful gifts in heaven.
