I learned from Don Boudreaux this morning that Walter Williams died either this morning or last night. For those of you who don’t know, he was a long-time economics professor at George Mason University.
I’ll have more to say later but I want to give one appreciation.
Walter liked smoking and he also hated the TSA. Some years ago, the combination of no-smoking regs on planes and intrusive groping by the TSA caused him to vow never to fly by commercial airline again. When he received offers to give speeches that were far enough away that driving was infeasible, he negotiated for a private airplane to take him there.
I thought it was something like that. I was fortunate enough to meet him at a conference when I was a grad student in the 1970’s. Even then he radiated greatness. He was a great, kind, brilliant man and a fine and sincere Christian. He will be missed and his family’s loss is a loss to a great many people.
There are no words I could type that would fully pay the HONOR due this great Conservative ... RIP Sir ....
Very sad. He was great filling in for Rush Limbaugh.
He was a true genius.
I always enjoyed when Walter Williams would sit in for one of the radio hosts. A great sense of humor. RIP.
Yes, and I was looking forward to ‘20 after my dad died last Thanksgiving.
Now we’re glad he died then instead of alone at the hospital in these tyrannical days.
I’m devastated by Williams’ loss much because he was still producing.
Sowell retired a few years ago so I don’t get to read him all the time. Occasionally now he writes something that is published in the “papers”.
Glad to still have him, but since he’s not a regular anymore I can’t miss him as much as Walt dying!
Same here !
Too bad they couldn’t have the political\intellectual icons for Black American instead of the frauds, cranks, morons, crooks & fruit bats that currently are !
I think Mrs, Williams passed away a couple of years ago.

Very sad - a great man - RIP.....
RIP!
Ugh. That’s a tough loss. Not only was WW an insightful commentator, he was also quite a character. He will be missed in these increasingly dull times. RIP.
“My favorite professor of all time - and by far.
He had an elegant way of analyzing human behavior in terms of the laws of economics - and was a master at demonstrating how our behavior is affected by individual liberty - or lack thereof.
His lectures, books and commentaries taught millions of conservatives how to think straight - and I really don’t think that is an overstatement.
His lectures were so mind-blowing that I actually used to invite my college friends to attend class with me. It was like going to a rock concert.”
You were blessed to have had him as a professor!
84 years is too soon! Rest in peace, Dr. Williams!
Go to Mr. Williams’s website and download his “Gift.” You will be glad you did.
Hear, hear! When Williams wasn’t the sub, I hoped (and still do) that it’s Steyn.
Our heaviest hitters on the right are up in years. Somehow, the left’s leaders continue to survive long into their 70s and 80s. Partly because they’re in government and refuse to release control of the lightning.
Black by popular demand!
What a great patriot. I met him once about 20 years ago at Hillsdale College.
RIP
The first thing I thought of, and my mom said, was what a nice man he was. Very smart, and very wise. R.I.P.
Oh, no! Mr. Williams was outstanding! May he Rest In Peace.
