US Bishops oppose excluding undocumented immigrants from census

Bishop Martin Dorsonville, chairman of the USCCB’s Commission on Migration, issues a statement voicing the Bishops’ opposition to the Trump administration’s plans to exclude undocumented immigrants from the census.

The Bishops of the United States have renewed their opposition to Donald Trump’s plan not to include undocumented immigrants in the decennial population counts that will determine the allocation of seats in the House of Representatives. On July 21 the President presented a Memorandum instructing the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to exclude irregular immigrants from the state-population totals that are produced by the 2020 Census and used for apportioning seats in the House of Representatives – the lower chamber of Congress – as well determining the number of votes in the Electoral College. The State of New York and a coalition of 21 states and local governments have brought the issue to the Supreme Court, arguing that the exclusion of undocumented immigrants is unconstitutional.

The U.S Bishops support this view and in July appealed to President Trump for the withdrawal of the Memorandum. On 16 November, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), together with other Catholic organizations, filed an amicus curiae brief on the case. The brief argues that excluding undocumented persons from the apportionment base of the census sends a message that they are not equal members of the human family. This message, the Bishops maintain, is contrary to the inherent dignity of each and every human person, and also violates the United States Constitution and the Census Act.

"Human dignity is most sacred"

The Court held its first hearing on the Trump v. New York case on 30 November. Commenting on the hearing, Bishop Mario E. Dorsonville, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration, reiterated: “Denying the undocumented and the states in which they reside their rightful representation in Congress is counter to the Constitution and makes people feel invisible and not valued as human beings.”

In his statement, published on the USCCB website, Bishop Dorsonville said, “The Church’s teaching is clear: human dignity is most sacred, regardless of legal status.” For that reason, he concluded, “we once again affirm the need to count all persons in the census, as well as in the apportionment of congressional representatives.”

This is a sovereign nation that serves its citizenry... NOT humanity. You want to be included in the census then become a citizen.

Ignorant Bishops.

Too many political opinions from the bishops these days, not enough religious ones.

The rcc would care not a whit.

If the undocumented voted equally R vs D, the USCCB would not care a whit.

Separation seldom matters more than when idiots won’t differentiate between a leader like Washington and one like Constantine.

The USCCB seems to exist for two reasons — supporting illegal immigration into the United States, and fervently assuring us that democrat politicians are “faithful Catholics in good standing” despite said politicians supporting abortion and any number of positions the Churchmen allegedly oppose.

Protesters Question Archbishop’s Loyalty To US
Protest LA Archbishop Jose Gomez Residence

Dozens of protesters have shown up at Archbishop of Los Angelus Jose Gomez residence. Many carrying American flags and bearing signs questioning Gomez’s loyalty to the US not Mexico along with many signs demanding equal rights for American citizens in Mexico.
The protest was apparently triggered by the clerics decision to push forward with his predecessors decision the disgraced Cardinal Mahoney by offering amnesty thus citizenship to Mexicans who crossed the border illegally. While thousands of Americans in Mexico suffer under 2nd class citizenship unable to own property and suffer indignitys let alone participate in Mexican elections while living there in Mexico.

A spokeswoman for the group, *Harriet Hildegarden insisted her group consists of Catholics loyal to the church. “We will be protesting at other locations where prominent clergy of the church have sided with the Obama regime”. “Hildy” claims the church is supporting the democrat party which denied God at their convention and declared what she claims is war on the Catholics but would collude with it on “social engineering” issues including “amnesty” . When asked if she may be denied communion for her activities her reply was “Well it’s been known that when that happens quicker when clerics get personally attacked than when some politician challenges the church on the grounds of faith and morals” * Fictional name used not intended to reflect on any so named person living or deceased

The USCCB are servants of Mammon

By far the largest recipient of taxpayer money within the USCCB is the umbrella of the “Resettlement Services” office. According to usaspending.gov, the USCCB received over $2 billion from the federal government between 2008 and 2015 for the purpose of refugee resettlement. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was one of nine major recipients to have been contracted by the federal government to “resettle refugees and asylums,” as stated by James Simpson of Foundation Watch in a piece for the Capital Research Center.
