Native American Groups Attack New ABC Drama For 'Cultural Appropriation' of Kidnap Victims

Just when we thought the woke crowd couldn’t get more ridiculous, they slam us with yet another grievance. This time, they launched the most ridiculous - and grotesque - accusation of cultural appropriation you'll probably ever hear, involving the racial depiction of kidnap victims on a new drama.

Big Sky originally premiered on ABC on November 17, but it's based on the 2013 book The Highway by C.J. Box. In it, we follow a series of abductions that take place at truck stops across Montana, along with the law enforcement dedicated to finding the missing victims. While the series diverts from the book in some ways, most notably with the inclusion of a transgender actor (because of course), the plot is relatively similar, surrounding the disappearance of sisters Grace (Jade Pettyjohn) and Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) Sullivan.

Unfortunately, that was enough for organizations to start complaining. On November 25, several indigenous groups, including the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Association and the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs and Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, began petitioning the show for “at best, cultural insensitivity, and at worst, appropriation.” The reason? The girls portraying the victims are white instead of Native American. Yes, casting white girls as kidnapping victims is now a form of cultural appropriation.

CMTSU! Well, I guess the absurdity continues. Based on an earlier post about some black sorority being called diverse by someone broadcasting something about the Macys parade. Think they're PO'd now, wait until the remake of roots comes out with matt mcononahee(sp) or jim carey playing kunta kinte. Hey, if it's good enough for 'jefferson'............. Special treatment is NOT equal treatment.

Why was it ok for “Hamilton” to have black actors and actresses playing the parts of people who were white?

Maybe they did a casting call and couldn’t find actual American Indian girls to play the parts?

Last I checked Montana nearly has a 90% White population. I think that most kidnap victims in the state would be White, but you can’t use logic when arguing with triggered and brainwashed people!

Any day now those CSI shows with all their white victims will be panned as insensitive to black victims of crime.

The Jeffersons for ‘20.

A white couple moves into an ever more gentrified black neighborhood in Harlem.

While I think the cultural appropriation angle is BS, how hard can it be to find two girls who actually are part of a tribe and actually look the part? Hell, Longmire did it with ease.

I must be missing something here. Isn’t this book a novel? In other words fiction? How could changing characters of kidnap victims in a piece of fiction be cultural appropriation? SMFH

On season 6 now. Weird thing is it’s a nutzflix series and haven’t seen the lgbtqrpxyz lean yet. Some AIM comments but you know, the rez and stuff. Could that be why no season 7? Or not enough POC in the show?

I thought they wrapped it nicely. I liked the angle of the AIM being nothing more than a tool for the scummy casino owner to use to further himself. Pretty real-life.

Does anyone else see where this is heading? We’re going to wind up with arguments about purity of the blood. Just wait.

I still can't get over the "cultural appropriation" (NOTE: shouldn't that be "RACIAL appropriation?") of Gene Rodenberry for not casting actual Vulcans, Tellerites, Klingons, etc. to portray alien characters!

Regards,

I could almost back them on this one, if it weren’t for my fulling expecting them to have made another kind of complaint had the victims indeed been portrayed as NA.
