Sen. Booker Introduces Bill to Transfer Land to Black Farmers

Three Democrat senators have introduced a bill that would reform the U.S. Department of Agriculture and create a system of land grants to transfer millions of acres to Black farmers at no charge.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., the lead sponsor of the bill, tweeted Tuesday, "I'm proud to team up with @ewarren and @SenGillibrand to introduce the Justice for Black Farmers Act. We need to balance the scales after decades of systemic racism within @USDA have harmed Black farmers."

The bill was announced on Nov. 19 by Booker, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and is set to be released on Nov. 30.

Booker told Mother Jones the bill aims to reverse the "destructive forces that were unleashed upon Black farmers over the past century — one of the dark corners of shame in American history." A new USDA agency called the Equitable Land Access Service would buy agricultural land from willing sellers and "convey grants of that land to eligible Black individuals at no cost to the eligible Black individuals," the bill states.

They’ve been promised that this will fly through, no problem once the doddering fool gets installed. Obama payed millions to ‘black’ farmers while he was in. I’m like others, I’ve never seen a black farmer...didn’t know they were so many of them /s

That’s what I would do.
Have a black friend get the land, and have a deal in place with him upfront that he sells me the property at a set price under the market price.
Then turn and sell it again at the market rate.
Everybody wins, unless the property was stolen at first.

Either something like that happens, or I foresee a whole lot of pot farms springing up everywhere.

There’s this little problem called the Equal Protection Clause of the Bill of Rights.

So, what I’m hearing is “Farm prices are going to drop, because people who were given free land will be dumping it for the cash”?

> At this point..those babies may be predominantly white. They may not even know they some black DNA <

That’s a good point. So having just some black DNA wouldn’t be enough. You’d have to set some sort of minimum amount. So it’s back to applying those old Nazi racial laws.

More like the “Americans to Starve Act”. It won’t be the political or connected class that goes hungry. It will be the middle and lower classes.

What the hell does Corey Booker know about farming?

Come on, Corey.

Tell us how it’s done.

There are days when you understand why Pol Pot took the politicians out to the fields to work.

They think that food comes by magic.

A new USDA agency called the Equitable Land Access Service would buy agricultural land from willing sellers and "convey grants of that land to eligible Black individuals at no cost to the eligible Black individuals," the bill states.

And if they cannot find enough "willing sellers" then by God the Federal Government is going to seize the land without compensation and make it so!

Now this right here is a violation of equal protection under the law. Where's my 40 acres and a mule even though I'm white?!

The Fifth Amendment protects the right to private property in two ways. First, it states that a person may not be deprived of property by the government without “due process of law,” or fair procedures. In addition, it sets limits on the traditional practice of eminent domain, such as when the government takes private property to build a public road. Under the Fifth Amendment, such takings must be for a “public use” and require “just compensation” at market value for the property seized. But in Kelo v. City of New London (2005), the Supreme Court interpreted public use broadly to include a “public purpose” of economic development that might directly benefit private parties. In response, many state legislatures passed laws limiting the scope of eminent domain for public use.

Forty acres and a mule?

I’m sure someone has already posted this but I’m too lazy to check.

Reparations. This will never hold up against the 14h amendment.

Maybe, maybe not.

My core view is the program will have opportunities for an enterprising black to exploit to their $$$ advantage with no desire to be a farmer for long. In time the program will likely not make a significant impact on the “diversity” of American farmers.

The other issue the authors of the stupid bill are surely not interested in is just what do current black farmers think of the bill. Is it fair to them that they worked to get their farm and did not get it for free? And what will those farmers think of the black using the bill to get their land.

The land will come from "connected" land owners, of land that is no longer viable for farming, to straw buyers at well above real market price, and they will turn around and sell to housing developers.

Am I sufficiently cynical, or not cynical enough?

This is all about motivating black voters in GA but I think it will motivate white voters more.

I wonder if the land has to be kept and/or farmed for a set time before it can be sold?

Buy the land from white people to give for free to black people so they can sell it to white people.

It is a give-away to mega-agribusiness because these Black “farmers” from the city will end up selling the land for pennies on the dollar, whether they actually attempt farming or not, to major corporations like Con-Agra.

Booker - like Obama - doesn't do squat for the black community beyond gin up their greed and offer them ill gotten potential loot.

That's insulting to the black community - and especially the one in six black men who voted for President Trump who have figured it out. The first thing race pimps do when white liberal elites 'reward' them is to move OUT of the black community... then from the inside of 'white world' they gin up resentment in the black community to cover their guilt.

When Obama's Rev Wright retired he moved out of Chicago's South Side and into 'white world'...Every NFL player but one did the same...

Ginning up greed and envy in the black community - and blaming working class whites and blacks is a game to keep blacks on the democrat plantation. And you're right - they would likely sell the land for pennies on the dollar then that could be used years later to gin up more rage and greed.

The ONLY politician who's helped the black community in the last 50 years has been Trump. And he didn't do it by throwing a pity party for them - he did it by offering them dignity.
