15 out of 195 recognize Taiwan, and the US isn’t one of them.

Besides, as a Cultural westerner, why should I care for Taiwanese anymore than I do Nigerians or Afghanis? I want the Chinese contained, but would never risk my life or have any American do so for Taiwan.

Wow, so if nations state we aren’t a sovereign nation, you
would back them?

Taiwan has a separate government and has for 60 to 70 years.

That sounds pretty sovereign to me.

Yes. You did not answer the question.

Nor apparently understood the question.

Not having official diplomatic relations does not mean Taiwan is part of China. The U.S. does not recognize Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan. Pompeo reiterated that publicly just the other day.

One more time. How is Taiwan part of China?

So you base your outlook on cultural bigotry. Got it. And you just hope that Red China won’t be active because you want to be inactive.
… I cannot recommend to your notice measures for the fulfillment of our duties to the rest of the world without again pressing upon you the necessity of placing ourselves in a condition of complete defense and of exacting from them the fulfillment of their duties toward us. The United States ought not to indulge a persuasion that, contrary to the order of human events, they will forever keep at a distance those painful appeals to arms with which the history of every other nation abounds. There is a rank due to the United States among nations which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the perception of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it. If we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war. …
George Washington said that in his Fifth Annual Address to Congress. The USA in any other state of being than that which he described above is a USA in danger.

The relations between Taiwan and other nations vary from state to state...57 other member states of the UN maintain unofficial and non-diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

106 nations, among them 46 African countries, have no form of relations with Taiwan. There are also ten entities, among them Serbia, that neither recognizes China nor Taiwan.

The United States considered Taiwan independent after WW2 until 1979, when for political reasons, it changed public stance, yet still maintaining favorable relations with Taiwan as a de-facto independent country, including offering military assistance.

One of the nicest things about western culture, is freedom to access information that puts things into a more correct context, rather than simply parroting pre-packaged talking points.

p.s., I did have to chuckle that 10 nations don’t recognize China at all, either.

I want the Chinese contained, but would never risk my life or have any American do so for Taiwan.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Madam Chang Kai Shek, the wife of the Nationalist Party leader of Taiwan, was a graduate of Wellesley College. She stood about 4 ft 3 in tall but risked her life for China repeatedly. She was a TALL woman.

Many Americans , not too long ago, put the lie to your statement of not risking life.General Clair Chenault and every one of the Flying Tigers Volunteer Aviation Group:

Taiwan is all that is left of the China that has had a continuous evolution of civilization for 6 thousand years. The Cina Commies cut that civilization short , invaded Tibet while the world watched in horror as monks were machine gunned in the court yards of their Buddhist Temples.

Now China has released a scourge on the world in the Wuhan virus. They get off scot free? I don’t think so.

No, the line needs to be drawn. Let it be Taiwan.
