SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday blocked a Trump Administration rule that opponents said would have harmed the bargaining rights of more than 500,000 home healthcare workers in California and several hundred thousand additional workers across the nation.

San Francisco-based U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria found that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services rule changing Medicaid state payment requirements would have made it tougher for states to deduct employee benefits and union dues from workers’ paychecks...

...The agency had said it was required to make the change because the old system was barred by federal law, but Chhabria said that “action was based on an erroneous interpretation of the Medicaid statute.”

Despite providing what the judge called “physically and psychologically demanding” home care services, the workers are paid a median $10.49 an hour nationwide, which he said makes it hard to hire ...

Wages are reimbursed by the feds, but the states negotiate directly with the unions. The unions get higher dues and more dues with coerced membership, the state gets higher income taxes and the taxpayer pays for it all. Maybe I'm being a little cynical, but less than 10 years ago, $10/hr was considered a great wage for skilled office workers, with unskilled workers hovering around $8/hr. Now $10/hr is viewed as sub-standard?

“$10/hr was considered a great wage for skilled office workers” -— Where was this? That seems low for skilled office workers, even ten years ago.

This article is pure propaganda.

The unions want their cut of the money up front and Obama et’ al got the laws changed to forcibly unionize home care workers and take their wages - even if they didn’t join the union which is what they want the feds to now do automatically when the medicaid payments come down.

Trump said the medicaid payments would go direct to the payees and they could decide what to do with the money.

NOW - who really CARES about the worker? Not this judge.

Hussein appointment, as if you even needed to look.

To be reversed either by the Ninth Circuit or SCOTUS.

most outrageously worded lead ever. The original rule prevents family members for caring for one another unless they pay union dues.

not sure if you’re correct on that. Didn’t 2014 Scotus rule that people couldn’t be forced to join unions as a condition of employment and feds couldn’t directly disburse Medicare funds (from which union dues are derived) to a third party? And Obama did a version of over-ride by declaring that states themselves could appropriate Medicare dollars by collecting ‘voluntary’ dues for a third party? Like Obama, this federal judge appears to be trying an end-run around Scotus.

My first good job as a kid was as a firefighter for the USFS; we made 2.35 per hour straight time (hard, physical labor), we got 4.70 per hour for hazardous duty, on the fire line fighting forest fires.

As a Lance Corporal in the Corps my pay was 137 dollars a month, HFP duty kicked that up to (if I recall correctly) about 205 dollars a month.

People cry about the stupidest shit.
